What is your story?

Any of yall who have made backstories for your Guardian, could you share them? I love reading the stories that the community has come up with to put a unique spin on their Guardian. For example: My Guardian is and Exo Titan, named Saber-13, who wakes up in the ruins of the Ishtar Academy, BUT not all of his memories are wiped away, so goes on a journey to figure out who he was in his past life. He is a stalwart soldier but kinda chaotic some of the time, but most of the time keeps a level head.

  • A dead awoken -blam!- worker dumped in the back of a trunk of some rubbish car in the Cosmodrome found by a paranoid schizophrenic ghost who then creates an anxiety ridden, nightmare plagued, clinically depressed Warlock (his actual name) who hates jumping puzzles because of their fear of heights and seems to fall off tiny ledges frequently but one thing he loves is to blow sh#t up. Eris Morn is his only friend, and he has a mad crush on Drifter.

  • My warlock's name is Logan Gray. He was awakened deep within the forests of Northern Europe. He was found by the fireteam Vulcan's Hammer. They helped him gain some semblance of normalcy and a place where he could belong. After losing his fireteam in a Vex ambush that left him the sole survivor Logan ,now just going by Gray, left the Tower after an altercation which saw him exiled. Gray shortly after this was plagued by nightmare's of horrible monsters and an ever encroaching darkness that would wipe out humanity. In an effort to prevent this he began searching for anything to avoid this outcome. This path took him to the most remote corners of Earth and beyond. From scraps of Hive lore and magic too ancient human weapons and artifacts. Gray's journeys have seen him outwit Savathun, survive the vex network, hunt monsters of nightmares and legend within the deepest reaches of the Frontier, and finding the last free Ahamkara( A tale for another time.). While on his travels Gray found many new techniques and skills that have helped him survive the dark wilds of the Frontier. None are more potent than a power he found locked within a temple? Vault? Located on Jupiter's moon Titan. The Aether. Using this power he is able to perform incredible feats of power, hoping to bring this back to Tower he began his journey home only to find his nightmares came true.

    • Back when I used to have three exo characters, I made a very basic story in my head that my guardian had some lost Rasputin bunker and would transer bodies and classes between all three, effectivly being the same soul inside each robot. While one would be out in the wild the other two would remain hidden underground. Nowadays for time's sake I only play one character and deleted the other two, and basically wrote in that the bunker got found and looted by the Fallen, and the exo bodies were stripped for parts.

          • Eleanor Stonewall: One of the finest shots in Fireteam Goliath. "It was only minutes after my eyes were met with the gentle, welcoming rays of the sun when I was approached by a large Titan named Peru Zanzibar. My life, on that day, changed forever." -Eleanor Stonewall Eleanor was just like any other New Light, taking in that first breath of air and moving your stiff joints after God knows how many years, but Eleanor had a natural gift of marksmanship, and that was the feature that would define her for her entire existence. Eleanor blinked her honey-colored eyes to rid them of whatever debris snuck their way into them and found herself lying in a stagnant pool of brackish water, wearing nothing but torn-up clothing and mangled combat boots. From the corner of her eye, Eleanor saw a glimmer of light under the water's dark surface. Eleanor allowed a curious hand to reach for it, and what it retrieved was the weapon that would seal her legend; a Survivors Epitaph dressed in purple and white metallic plating which shimmered like one-thousand stars on a clear night. As Eleanor examined the weapon, a purple speck invaded her peripheral vision. Turning to it, Eleanor saw her Ghost, Robin, spinning its shell merrily as he observed his Guardian. Eleanor tilted her head slightly to the side. "Who?" "I am your Ghost! My name is Robin, and I am here to help you in your fight against the Darkness!" Robin chirped in response to Eleanor's bewildered 'who?'. "The Darkness?" Eleanor inquired as she slowly rose to her feet. Before Eleanor could speak another word, Robin cut her off suddenly. "Woah! Guardian! You need some fresh clothes!" "...yes, but where can I find some? There's nothing here but trees, bushes, and this puddle of water I'm standing in," Eleanor stated. Suddenly, the ground began to vibrate, which caused the young Huntress to freeze. "He-hey! Uh...Robin! Do you feel that?" Suddenly, a dark shadow loomed overhead; whatever or whoever owned it was immense in stature. Eleanor turned around and saw a Titan. A huge Titan standing seven-foot-five inches tall and had the mass of two large men. Eleanor's heart jumped into her throat when her eyes fell upon the man. Too stunned to say anything, all she could do was stare. A thunderous chuckle came from deep within the chest of the Titan before he removed his helmet to ease the Huntress' worry. A man with grey hair and vibrant green eyes was the owner of the immense figure. The man smiled. "Why hello, New Light. Are you lost?" the Titan asked in a strong, Dutch accent deep enough to shake a mountain. Eleanor stared up at the man in awe. The Titan chuckled. "Well, allow me to give a proper introduction. My name is Peru Zanzibar. I am the leader of Fireteam Goliath, and we're looking for willing Guardians to join our ranks." "Fireteam?" Eleanor muttered in response. "What's a Fireteam?" Peru chuckled. "A Fireteam is a group of Guardians who are tasked to protect the City and its people." Peru folded his arms. "I can tell just by looking at you that you're a quick learner, so you'd be easy to train." "Train?" Eleanor responded. Eleanor pointed to her chest. "You...want to train...me?" "Of course. We can use another Hunter." Peru offered his hand for Eleanor to shake. "I will forge you into something the world cannot fathom. I will make you a threat." Eleanor looked at her Ghost for reassurance; her Ghost nodded. Eleanor looked back up at the hulking man, grabbed his hand, and shook it gently. Peru smiled, then gave Eleanor a firm pat on the back before leading her back to his camp. "You've made the right choice...er...what's your name?" Peru inquired, leaning down, awaiting a response. "Eleanor. Eleanor Stonewall."

My guardian is a hunter exo, named Omega-7 but before she became an exo and a guardian she was a ex-military soldier who loved to look up at the stars with her husband and son but one night they were sleeping and then they heard a sound and so they all walked out of their bedrooms and into the hallway and the son was scared and asked “Mommy what was that sound?” And she told him not to worry and so she went to see what it was by then same sound was coming from where her husband and son were and so she rushed only to see that she was too late and to see the creature escape and so she buried them in the cemetery and then she grabbed her gun and went after the creature but when she found it she killed but it also wounded her to the point where she would die in a matter of seconds and after a few centuries she was revived by a ghost named Atom and after he explained everything, she decided that she would not let anyone else die under her watch. What will her and Atom do? Find out in Omega-7 the Blood Hunter and Atom the Brave Ghost: The Path towards an Exo.

Hunter-The Hunter exo was risen in a ruin house on the west cost of America. His ghost told him they had to move so he did. After this he quickly found a ship and head to the tower. During this time he did not know he was an exo. His ghost never said anything to him and he never looked in mirrors at himself. When he got to the tower he meant with Cayde who told him that he was and exo. This shocked him and caused a panic attack making him flee back to where he was resurrected. He found there a old video drive of his past life before and after he was an exo. His wife his kids his name and his death. After a talk with his Ghost he destroyed the drive saying “that was the old me. I am something new”. He named himself Plasma and his Ghost was named Obsidian. They went back to the Tower and begain there journeys together Warlock-The warlock woke in a old abandon amusement park in Canada his ghost told him to run due to the hive infestation but was caught trying to escape. During this something called to him. He shot out a frozen blast of stasis freezing the hive and escaping. The power scared him. He and his ghost walked for days as his ghost filled him in on what is happing giving him last city books to read. When they finally found a ship the looked out to the coming storm and gave each other names. The ghost would be Storm and the warlock Winter and was known as the strongest warlock to ever be risen but never used all of his power due to the fear of hurting others. Titan-The titan woke on a crashed ship out on the far edges of the tangled shore. His ghost told him to hide as a fallen raiding party was on the way. He refused. He walk out the ship and with only his fist killed every fallen. He travel the tangle shore after scavenging the ship for parts killing anything that challenges him no weapons needed. When his ghost asked him why he does not use a gun he told him “Bullets miss,My fist don’t” They then gave each other names. The ghost would be silver and the titan Citadel. He walk the shore for months before the vanguard sent Plasma and Winter to recover him. The three would come together as a fire team and would go on to become legend. Plasma being the most caring of the three. He was known for being both the smartest and the dumbest of the three. Winter being antisocial but still stuck round with them. Being smart and calm he made good choices but was known for being emotion at moments. He still always never used him full power in battle because he feared hurting his friends. Citadel was the leader and strongest. His fist where feared by all and was the most valuable in battle but struggled with the nightmares of all he killed.

                • Hunter Exo. In a previous life was a drug thug that spent way too much time in jail. Was killed in a drug deal gone wrong by Willy the whip with a shotgun last to the back. Was then resurrected and had his consciousness transfer to an Exo body in a failed experiment to rehabilitate. When said experiment failed was sentenced to perma death and unplugged. Resurrected again by his now Ghost to become a Guardian in an attempt to fix his past mistakes, but not actually knowing what they were often makes thing worse not better. His bad attitude has unfortunately carried over into his new life and still constantly finds himself in precarious situations that often get him killed again, and again. Has amassed a wealth far beyond what is reasonable and is unlikely to ever let anything go without a fight. To be continued....

                  • My exo titan is REALLY old like Banshee. He has almost no personality and his cognitive abilities are almost completely limited to mission objectives and self preservation. He is ruthless and has zero empathy. Can't be reasoned with, can be bargained with and absolutely will not stop until the objective is complete. Obviously he's inspired by "The Terminator". My all time favorite movie.

My guy, Marshall-1, had just became an Exo on Europa and he had arrived at Bray’s Earth cosmodrome. He got a free tour pass of the place and while the tour boat he was on was passing the eastern Cosmodrome (Plaguelands) the Witness invaded. He was eventually resurrected some time between the SIVA Criss and Red War as a Hunter and with his Ghost, whom hadn’t been named, he made his way to the city. Thing about him was he was able to easily ignite a ruined hand cannon into a Golden Gun right off the back despite his recent resurrection. This caught wind of Cayde and Cayde took him under his cloak, training him into being a Vanguard Freelancer who could do any task he was assigned to Eventually, Cayde would pass on and Marshall would seek the vengeance Now Marshall continues his freelance duties using the inheritance of his mentor to uphold that legacy He eventually named his Ghost “Ante”

                        • Hunter
in the desert in a place somewhere along the Arizona/new Mexico border, a ghost found his risen. It was winter, fresh snowfall covered the cacti. He awoke in a bar and his ghost directed him outside. Scavenging for supplies, he encountered an old rusty revolver. With no other weapons, he took it to defend himself. He eventually encountered a group of humans scavenging. He kept his distance, analyzing them. A fallen skiff would then drop out of the sky, vomiting out a small band of vandals and dregs, led by a captain. They began to extort the group of humans, taking their food and butchering any -blam!-. The ghost said to the man "you're a guardian, you need to help, it's what you do!" Reluctantly he emerged from his hiding spot and demanded that the fallen stand down. Instantly all their weapons trained on him, but the revolver was already drawn before they could line up their shots. Handling the gun was like instinct to the hunter, as he pulled the trigger. The revolver's hammer dropped and... Nothing. The gun didn't fire, the hammer dropped on a chunk of rust rather than the firing pin. For a moment... Silence. The captain chucked and made a commanding gesture. One of the vandals fired their wire rifle, and the man was dead. The captain then ordered something in it's alien tongue that the humans couldn't comprehend but nonetheless knew it was the order to kill them all. They cowered in fear, one of the group began murmuring an old prayer. The fallen party stepped over the corpse of the man and advanced on the humans. No, they wouldn't waste their ammo; they would use their blades. The captain brandished his swords, eyes feral and ready to kill. He didn't see the flash of light behind him as the man got to his feet, his entire body wreathed in flame. The man didn't fully comprehend what had just happened, only that his instincts were telling him to reach into the light, and from that light he pulled a flaming hand cannon. The man fanned the hammer of the golden gun, all that remained was the smell of scorched meat. After the ashes settled, the golden gun flickered out of the guardian's hand. He dropped to his knees, trying to comprehend what had just happened. He had stood up to these aliens, died, then awoke again able to weild a gun of fire. The group of humans murmured amongst themselves: they had heard rumors of immortal warriors with the ability to draw weapons seemingly from nothing. The ghost hung in the air before the guardian. "Are you ok? You died again, but I brought you back again like I did in that bar. Like I said, you're a guardian now, as long as I live you will never die." The two exchanged a few words, and the ghost began to call the man blaze. The man realized he hadn't had a name before so he decided it was better than nothing. The ghost didn't have a name either. "I'll call you ash, since you'll be able to put my ashes back together when I burn." The ghost liked this name. They regrouped with the refugees who were searching for a place called "the last city." Over the next 2-3 years (there was no real way to tell the time without a calendar of any kind, they only could count the seasons) the group would make their way to the City. From here I just imagine the guardian following the normal story from D1 onward, speaking to the speaker about how the traveler is getting weaker from the black heart etc.
I'll do my Titan and warlock too, but I need to go to sleep for my night shift now.

                        • Warlock main, but I play all three and treat them as a full fireteam. I’ll try to keep them each brief. For any who are curious, I play Void Titan, Solar Hunter, and Arc Warlock pretty much exclusively. Germaine and Arma Awoken Titan reborn far from Earth and accepted by a small pack of Eliksni, the taciturn Germaine and his battle-hungry ghost Arma would later be coerced into service of the last city during a botched scavving run outside the wall. Germaine would only find peace with this outcome of events upon seeing the House of Light granted sanctuary in the city. Cicero and Gossamer Human Hunter widely ridiculed for having a “few screws loose”, the backward Cicero and his unsettlingly macabre ghost Gossamer would be exiled from the last city for their lust to understand the Darkness. Upon a chance encounter with the like-minded Keepsake-09 and Lilith, Cicero and Gossamer would dedicate their time and energy to the research of their Warlock benefactor. Keepsake-09 and Lilith Exo Warlock considered by others to be something of a lost cause, he cared little for the great conflict before him. He and his ghost Lilith made a habit of collecting curiosities far more than serving the Vanguard, and the pair was consequently released from service after several failed attempts to spur a sense of greater purpose within. Keepsake-09 would eventually begin to research the fundamental forces of Darkness and Light, pressing the Hunter Cicero and his former fireteam member, the Titan Germaine into his service.

                            • I’ll give you all three. All of my characters are female: Hunter (Human): Died during the Collapse trying to save her family in the Cosmodrome. Spends most of her time away the Tower ever since Cayde was killed. She was close with him and now she has no real reason to stick around. She pops in for bounties now and then but stays either in her ship or in the wilds most of the time. Warlock (Awoken): Crashed on earth just after the Collapse after leaving the Reef. Spends most of her time working with Ikora and Eris trying to learn as much as she can about both the Light and the Darkness. Titan (Exo): One of the first successful Exos. She’s never been reset and still has all of her memories from when she was human. She wasn’t a willing participant but made the best of her situation. One of a rare few to get a Ghost while still alive and regularly makes trips into the City to help the civilians as much as she can. Even if it’s just playing games with the kids. She loves hanging out with Shaxx but doesn’t go into The Crucible very often.

                            • Only a few years into her great search for someone worthy of her light (at the height of what would later be known as the Dark Age), an unnamed Ghost finds her partner within the wreck of a strange single-seat fighter half buried nose deep in a salt desert. Revived for the first time in a sweltering metal box in the middle of nowhere with only a spoiled emergency kit for aid, the two trudged through the unforgiving environment towards the nearest settlement. Thankfully the newly Risen woman only had to be revived once by her Ghost before some travelers from the sought-after village (which turned out to be nestled against a large salt lake, hidden within the ruins of a Golden Age city) came across the pair and took her in. Fed and clothed as their scripture demanded, the people of the Salt Lake took in the stranger with light blue skin and black hair with little more than some murmurings over her beauty and given the name Azure. Over the next few years Azure lived amongst these people, filling in with whatever chores or other tasks as were needed while learning everything they knew. The Bishop was especially kind to her, and while no true romance ever developed between them, they became close compatriots. And then the Bishop died, and the simple life turned into a nightmare. The Bishop’s son was nothing like his father except in one way: he knew scripture well, well enough that he easily found inspiration on how to rule with the story of a king who knew he was above all others, and if you were to prosper it was only by his favor. Within a year Azure and all the other Sisters found themselves locked away in their homes, forced to the menial labors around the house and pressed into obedience to the men who kept them there. Something inside of Azure burned as restriction turned to outright slavery, and while she and others fought back where they could, the new Bishop and his friends always clapped back with greater force. His reign came to head one day when one of the Sisters killed the man the Bishop said was her husband. Sentencing her to death despite the testimony of the other Sisters in the house (Azure included) that she simply fought back when he demanded something she was not willing to give, the Bishop’s friends prepared the gallows and the entire village was dragged to the square to watch. Seeing her friend and Sister standing on a stool with a rope around her neck was the tipping point for Azure. A fire that had always been within her burned into an inferno and as the Bishop reached out to kick the stool away, Azure’s fire erupted from her hand in the form of a burning Golden Gun and incinerated him on the spot. The ensuing riot didn’t last long, and by the time the sun set all of the Bishop’s men were dead, fled into the wasteland, or imprisoned. A new village council was organized and their first act was to name Azure mayor, but she refused the role. She could feel that her calling was something else. Over the ensuing decades, Azure took up the mantle of protector, doing whatever she could to keep the dangers of the world away from the village, allowing those tasked with guarding it to focus more on the farming, crafting, and trading everyone depended upon for life. Bandits on the road, the alien Fallen raiders, and even the troops following the banner of a nearby warlord soon learned to fear this new guardian who often swooped in out of nowhere, a tactic that soon gave Azure her nickname: The Kestrel. After years of trying out numerous names but rejecting them all, her Ghost finally got one that stuck: Lia, named for a mystical ball that could point the way thanks to her ability to find whatever it was Azure was looking for. After nearly a generation of quiet though, Azure became restless. Only a handful of bandits ever tried to jump or harass the convoys now, the warlord had fallen when he marched to the lake’s edge and called her to single combat, Risen against Risen. Even the so-called Iron Lord who called himself “Zavala” found his invitation to her rejected. Instead, she felt something inside her calling her to the heavens. Cashing in decades worth of favors that the families insisted on honoring despite them being owed by grandparents or great-grandparents, the old wreck Lia had originally found Azure in was rebuilt into something that could actually fly (if not smoothly), and for the first time since she first came to the Salt Lake, The Kestral left. Her journey through the system took years, with little more than her intuition and whatever scraps of data were still in the wrecked and rebuilt computer to go by Kestrel and Lia flitted to whatever remnants of the Golden Age they could find: first the half-buried cities of Mars, then a dive into the great libraries on Venus. Eventually they found their way to the Asteroid Belt, and The Reef. Intercepted by the Awoken corsairs hiding amongst the ancient debris, Azure was brought to the Queen herself, flanked as always by her sneering brother. She almost didn’t see the later though, the light in the sky that had been tugging at her soul for ages was reclining on the throne in front of her, and the Risen dropped to her knee to pledge her fealty. Her world was shattered however, as the Queen cooly denied Azure’s service, declaring her unworthy of The Reef and banishes her back to Earth. Stung by the rejection, the blow was at least softened with the gift of a replacement to her old wreck of a fighter. If her view of the heavens had been broken by the Queen, another would destroy Azure’s world once she returned: the radio frequency she used with the village was nothing but static as she came into range, and her fears became real when she flew over the burnt-out husk that used to be the homes of everyone she loved. Azure died that day, leaving only the Kestrel to avenge the dead. Lia’s scans identified the culprits easily enough, and the quest began. Like everything else in her life, it took years to find them all: a new league of bandits roaming the continent in numerous packs, all under the banner of another Risen abusing his power for terror. The final battle nearly broke The Kestrel, were it not for the timely arrival of Lady Perun and her fireteam she and Lia would almost certainly have perished. Taken in by the Iron Lords for a short while, The Kestral soon became simply Kestra, and from there the Risen and Ghost would return to their cabin in the mountains overlooking the Salt Lake, keeping watch over their little corner of the world. When the City Age began Kestra was offered a place within it, and while she would make a home there, she kept herself independent from most of the organizations building up within and around it. The only person in the new Vanguard she would ever listen to would be Tallulah Fairwind and her successors through the centuries.

                            • Other than my Hunter being the same character as my Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, not really. So after the opening of Mass Effect 2 when the Normandy blows up, and Shepard is falling to earth, well mine landed in Russia, and you know the rest. Yes, I just admitted to trading the excellent Mass Effect 2 story for... Destiny 1...

                            • My guardian’s name was Evan. He was a doctor studying how to process memories and store them into physical objects. One day, as he is leaving work, his phone pings that an alert is happening. He rushes home to his wife, and his two children as fast as he could. His pulse gets faster. His breathing gets heavier. Rain starts to pour and a thunder storm arrives, waiting to greet him. As he parks his car in the worst way possible, he rushes to his door, while alarm sounds are being heard. He could already hear the screaming as people get slaughtered by an unknown creature. His babies are crying. His wife isn’t at the house. He calls her, only to get no answer. Where is Emmy, he thinks to himself. Where is she? All of a sudden, the rain stops. No, that’s not it. The sound just became quiet. Because of the noise of a creature close by screeching so everyone knows it’s presence. It goes into his home as him and his babies hide. The babies cry, and he tries to quiet them, but meets an unknown figure because of that. It slaughters his two children, but he manages to get away. He drives his car and goes to a clock tower. I’ll never be caught here, he thinks. But another creature meets him by the time he gets to the stop. !SLASH! Dead. Centuries later, a ghost arrives. He wakes up and asks where he is. He was in the cosmodrome, on top of a clock tower. What is your name, guardian? He looks at where he is. What era is it, ghost? The ghost tells him it’s centuries into the future. He has missed eras of memories. They’re fractured. “My name…is Erafracture.” And that’s the story of my guardian .
