Exotic Raid Drop Rates are Terribly Balanced

Why do some players get the raid exotic their first run, while others need to play 50+? You can’t just say it’s bad “rng” if you’ve put 30, 40, or even 50 runs into a raid, even a 2 or 3% drop chance that increases every week with “bad luck protection”, should yield the exotic in 20-30 runs. The drop rates are terribly balanced between new players and frequent d2 players. Players are earning the exotic multiple times (why? this shouldn’t even happen if they already have it), while people such as myself, can’t even get collective obligation after 50+ runs. It’s just comical at this point because bungie is letting the inequality continue to spread between the new players and the players that consistently play every week. If you ran a raid 50 times and don’t have the exotic yet, Bungie had you waste about 16 weeks of chasing, congrats.

  • Honestly. I'm trying not to be rude but: what does this post achieve? Bungie don't read this and yours is the thousandth post on the same thing. What were you hoping to achieve? Just because you could, you didn't stop to consider if you should. Your post sums up social media: everyone thinking their opinion is valuable and the best. Consider this: 1000 threads all saying the same thing or one well thought out thread supported by thousands and thousands of people? Amalgamation is what you need because alone, your opinion is meaningless.

    • Would like to see it remain as is, on top of seal completion reward the weapon or a flawless run. Preferably flawless since it lets you just go get it if your good enough while forcing the raid community to get better in a more interesting way

    • The R in RNG stands for random. That's how/why.

      • Keep in mind the bad luck protection is only a weekly +1% as it is only awarded based of your 1st account clear of the week. So after 50 clears your drop chance would only be around 17%. To reach 100% drop chance it would take 1 year and 8 months worth of clears each week.

        • If the drop rate is too low, just wait for Bungie to raise the drop rate or make it farmable?

          • I think players have a hidden luck stat, and the more money you spend on micro transactions and battle passes the higher it goes up effecting exotic weapon drop chances.

            • What I hate the most is how someone who already has it can get it multiple times afterwards. Why is that and why is it specific to raid exotics only? Who even knows if this affects the drops as well? What if you potentially got screwed out of your raid exotic drop because someone who already has it got it again that run? You cannot get any exotic weapon to drop that you already have and Bungie has since shoved all new exotic weapons into quests or season pass. So you're telling me I can potentially get Vex, Touch and whatnot multiple times, all static rolled guns but I have to wait upwards of MONTHS for Xur to bring a Hawkmoon or Dead Man's Tale that I want??? The two most rng guns in the game cannot be obtained by RNG drops?? Who designs this stuff 🤷

              • I think I’ve run KF 20 times now, and have 5 ToM drops. The joke now in our clan is “who wants to watch Smokey get ToM again?”. Took me 42 VoG runs to get Mythoclast. But my rng has definitely changed since then. I’ve even been able to score 1k and Eyes going back to those raids. Heartshadow even dropped for me after like 15 runs. It’s not fair that RNGeezus loves me more than others. I feel bad. And Bungie needs to fix how inconsistent and incredibly frustrating raid exotic drops are.

                    • That’s why I give the raid and dungeon exotics very little thought. I’ll run them casually. If they drop great. If they don’t then that’s Bungie’s loss. Once everyone gets tired of running them then that’s it. Bungie’s problem is crappy drop rates and subpar stat drops on armour cause players to quit sooner. For example. I tried to put together a Dark Hollow Hunter raid armour build. I’ve got 9 clears. Not a lot but enough to see the trend. Basically I’ve only rec’d 1(Helmet) high stat usable piece of raid armour. All other armour drops have been junk. So the exotic doesn’t drop and the legendary armour drops are mostly garbage stat wise. What’s the point in playing this activity. It’s not fun. I’ve got 27 clears of this raid in D1. It’s nothing but a copy paste activity that is unrewarding.

90% sure the chances do not go up with successful clears. The only time I recall bad luck protection like that was with 1k and Anarchy when they became farmable. Again, it's just RNG. "The drop rates are terribly balanced between new players and frequent d2 players." I wouldn't doubt that there was a 'desire meter' or something similar. Everything that I've seen with long term drop tracking seems to show the opposite though. I don't think on this one to much till something is proven. "Players are earning the exotic multiple times (why? this shouldn’t even happen if they already have it), while people such as myself, can’t even get collective obligation after 50+ runs. " RNG is a cruel -blam!-. "If you ran a raid 50 times and don’t have the exotic yet, Bungie had you waste about 16 weeks of chasing, congrats." I enjoy raiding, so this is more on you, if you think you wasted your time.

You can’t just say it’s bad “rng” if you’ve put 30, 40, or even 50 runs into a raid
Let's do some quick numbers. The standard drop rate for new Raid Exotics is touted to be 5%, so we'll go with that. That can be written as 1 in 20, which means the chance of not getting the drop is 19 in 20. The chance of not getting it in successive weeks is (19/20) ^ X, where X is the number of looted clears. Multiply by 100 to turn it back into a percentage. For 30, it's 21.5%. For 40, it's 12.9%. For 5, it's 7.7%. Yes, it's annoying to not get it after that many attempts, but the chance of it happening is well within plausibility.

                      • Bad luck protection works only on EoT. Eventually you get it, stop demanding 20-30 runs because it mean everyone will get it in matter of single season, which is unacceptable.

                        • Out of millions of people running the raid of course not everyone is gonna get it. Its RNG boo hoo you dont get the gun. Players like you would be malding in D1 where exotics dropped every blue moon.

                            • They've always been terribly balanced and bungie won't care to change it unless the whole community complains about it. Which won't happen because the community is worried about other things like this event and crucible.
