I’d like to see PvP numbers now

Bungie published their PvP data in the first or second week of this season. A few more weeks in I’m genuinely interested to see how it’s doing. My feeling is that after the initial early season and Epic games player bump that there has been a dramatic reduction in PvP numbers. Matchmaking and games feel really bad this week.

Bringing CBMM into the game in D1 and D2 was one of the biggest mistakes Bungie made. It allowed the players who stayed to get better over time and the players who left or was new to the game to be the less experienced of the group. CBMM expects everyone to be on the same level when they are not and it tries to feed the “casual” essence even though it is dictated by connection over skill and experience. SBMM takes in your experience and skill over connection. It is not rocket science. Some of you assume the “C” in CBMM is “Casual” when it is “Connection”. Both systems need to give up something to improve what it is meant to achieve. CBMM gives up skill and proper lobby balancing for better connection and availability. SBMM gives up connection and availability for better skill and lobby balancing. SBMM should have never been subbed out to appease the numbers or to bring in content. Content and dedicated servers should have been the means for that and now the game is suffering from all core systems to even function correctly. This is what happens when you apply shortcuts for a natural occurrence of play while avoiding the needed improvements to extend the longevity of fun and balance. Bungie’s focus has never been about the community or even the game’s health, it has always been about control, how they want the game and money. Common sense would have been to try to find means to improve lobby balancing in CBMM due to lack of dedicated servers while improving core systems and activities. Or Weed out the problem children with SBMM by applying proper lobby balancing and connection improvements while adding dedicated servers over time aligned with improving the core systems and activities. Bungie has to pick an identity and side. Plain and simple. Cater to a repetitive, unbalancing system that is dictated by META shifts and poor decision making. Or Cater to fun, balance and the improvement of the core systems. This back and forth between SBMM and CBMM needs to stop before the game becomes its own Destiny killer. META shifts, power levels and Champions with locked loadouts are not content and should never be used as a main means of handling it.
