Eagers edge was just nerfed big deal
It didn't nerf the general use of it only speedrunning which is a weird decision
But what if there was a way to reduce the relevance of the perk make swords more interesting to build into and make older swords relevant again
First off eagers edge is sick but the lunge range and speed is so good yes you can break multiple encounters in the game or make certain encounters trivial
Duality and totems are good examples where speed is most certainly key and although an enemy can make it harder to get to places faster due to hitting them instead of going forward that's not a gameplay mechanic that's abusing a glitch that allows you to carry speed after the swing and in turn remove the timer basically just because you have eagers edge
Also eagers edge only comes on 2 swords
Annoying to grind for and making the swords not swing multiple times in 1 proc is not a good way to fix this
Solution part 1
Stick with me here ok it'll make sense
Also the purpose of this is to make general combat with a sword feel beyond just swing at big enemy or eagers edge towards players and insta kill in crucible not to make flying across jumping puzzles easier
I know people want to say it's only speedrunners
Not true every lfg fireteam I've been in has featured at least 2 people swinging across kings fall jumping puzzles with it and this doesn't involve Totems cheese duality cheese or anything else so it is a significant gameplay problem to have this much speed this easy and about 67 of them too
Give swords a visible lunge speed and lunge distance stat that can change depending on edge
This is a good way too make older swords and newer swords feel different instead of pick the best one for dps or grab eagers edge
Let's be honest there are some cool swords that are useless because they just don't have whirlwind blade relentless strikes with vortex frame
Vortex frames now have less lunge range but speed is high with 15% less damage against bosses and vehicles
Adaptive or uppercut or whatever they are have more lunge range and speed
Caster frames have faster lunge speed and distance while using the sword ability but outside of the ability deal 20% less damage
Jagged edge
Sword guard breaks faster will protect from 60% of damage infinite block duration when not being dealt damage
My idea is that this blade is due to it being "jagged" is also "heavy"
Less lunge distance
Lunge speed unchanged
Ammo 40
Curved edge
Sword guard break unchanged 30% damage reduction
Since this blade is curved it should swing a tiny bit faster and have more ammo
10% faster lunge speed
Lunge distance unchanged
Ammo 50
Eager edge "in 4th collumn"
Adds 30 lunge speed
Adds 30 lunge distance
Allows multiple swings
Only usable when 15 meters or closer to enemies
+15 ammo
60% damage
Max lunge distance will give 65% of the range that eager edge gives now
Max lunge speed will give the same speed as eager edge gives now
This would also allow the ability to play with dex mods for lunge speed as well to help build into it and allow swords to be useful for adclear if lunge distance and speed were specced into with eagers edge for more ammo and relentless strikes to regain ammo for getting more hits in
Also giving unrelenting a useful place among swords and keeping the use for swords for dps
