Never done a raid

I have never been part of a raid in the game, they look like such fun but I’ve never had enough people to even attempt any raid. But with the addition if King’s Fall in d2, i really want to start running raid but i have no clue where to even begin. Any ideas?

  • Using the Bungie website fireteam search function has gotten me many raids. When I do the raid first time I always go for groups with "willing to teach", "teaching" and "chill" titles. I've had a very positive experience from it. I've had one raid that was a bit negative. The leader was a bit short and didn't seem to want to explain too much. However the other four members of my team were all experienced and took over the reigns and helped out with explaining. So in short, my suggestions is use the fireteam search function on the website, but also consider joining a clan and a LFG Discord group. Don't be shy, if people aren't nice, you can always excuse yourself and dip out.

    • Ok so I see a few people on here willing to help you, what if we all join forces and get you a few of the new raids done so you can be confident enough to make your own post on lfg ?

      • Find a teaching group and set aside plenty of time. Unless you set expectations up front. Also, stay away from teams that just want take you through the boss. They are not interested in helping you, they just want the emblem.

      • Hey Guardian. Raids can be really fun, but also terrible experiences for a solo player depending by the people he//she Raid with. Find the right people to make a group is the most important thing in order to get a good, fun and inclusive experience. If you don't have active member of your Clan, you can use Discord or LFG to find Guardians to Raid with. Be sure to specifiy you've never Raid before and you want someone who can teach you at your side. Don't make the mistake to simply join a Raid squad because people could think you already know what to do and how do it. Also, be sure to have enough free time. A Raid Team that knows how to move throught steps and Boss fights with the right Weapons can complete a raid in less then an hour without problems, but other team need more tries for some steps or Bosses. Don't let your teammates half way the Raid... If you want to have an idea how a Raid works, you can use one of the thousands Raid guides on YT that show and explain how complete every step, how mechanics work and which Equip is better to use ecc. Otherwise, if you want to go blind and let people to teach you straight in the Raid, again, be sure to specigy this. It's possible to find groups of people who want to Raid the first time completely blind and enjoy the experience in this way. Communication is key in Raids. You need a good pair of headphones and a good mic. If you don't have one, also a pair of ear phones with a mic can work, just be sure the other can ear your voice clearly. Unfortunately, like many other games, D2 has a portion of community that is pretty toxic and elitist. That's way, again, I encourage you to specify you've never Raid before and you want to learn. If the first try doesn't work, don't give up. Try again until you find chill people who are willing to bring you with them and teach you how a Raid works.

      • Look at my example, I watched a video on how to do kings fall, joined lfg team, never said it was my first time, but we got it done, not too hard. If you want, just join an lfg, and tell them it’s your first time, and ask if they mind. I bet you 100$ minimum half will not mind. It’s really not as hard as you’d think. Just remember you need to dunk on the daughter who’s shooting at you, lol.

        • Start with watching tutorials for the raid you want to do, the use the 100.io website to find a team once you feel comfortable with the encounters. This app isn’t it.

My advice as a sherpa, Ensure you have a Clear Mic that you are able to communicate with also learn from external guides on the activitie such as youtube, google, wikipedia, sometimes i have seen even guides on P*rnhub.

              • you can LFG - but that's toxic and you'd have a better experience jumping into a vat of acid. Join a clan - PvE centric tends to be best

              • I regret not raiding. Trying now is “watch vids” to learn encounters. I don’t see the fun in knowing the raid going in. I never see “let’s figure it out”

                • If you want to get into raiding I highly recommend either Vault of Glass or Deep Stone Crypt, I picked these two solely because they introduce to newer raiders what types of mechanics are to be expected of both them and their team. Below I will list what each raid leans it content heaviest towards that way you can determine which one sounds favourable to you. VOG: Less mechanically intense, more dependant on game knowledge and build crafting (mostly just applies to master mode), currently not worth running outside of the Seal and Master mode for the adept versions of Found Verdict and Fatebringer. Last Wish (LW): Mechanic heavy raid, despite being consider one of if not the greatest raids in Destiny history it is now hilariously outdated especially in regards to its loot and how the encounters work, definitely play this last or maybe second if you want to challenge your brain. Garden of Salvation (GOS): Mechanic heavy and has puzzle elements with less of a focus on traditional raid combat, play this if you want to see how drastically different raiding is to any content in the game, no loot incentive outside of the Divinity quest and the Bow from the first encounter. DSC: Mix of mechanics and combat, easy to digest roles and how they compliment the mechanics, generally considered to be the easiest raid in D2 currently, has some very good loot that might be worth playing for each week. Vow of the Disciple (VOTD): Mechanic heavy first half with a combat heavy final half, build crafting really shines here especially for surviving the 3rd encounter, you will need to be quick to adapt to changing mechanics on the fly, has craftable loot so definitely worth playing 3 times a week if you play all 3 characters. Kings Fall (KF): Mechanic heavy, is the most up to date raid so there will be plenty of teams willing to teach (especially since they get rewarded for it with an emblem), loot is extremely good and craftable, is currently the only raid that will drop pinnacles from every encounter for a grand total of 5 pinnacles a week at a +3 to what you have currently.

Watch a video of the one you want to try, and tell your team it’s your first time. Most of us are actually pretty cool about it, and the ones that are not are usually the problems anyways.

                  • Just watch videos beforehand, don't be stupid, shy or anything related and get into an LFG that specifically says "teaching" or whatever, then join and be confident and say yeah I'm completely new but if you explain me, we'll do quick work of this raid

                  • Do Vault Of Glass first. Next to Crota it’s the easiest and has a great aesthetic. King’s Fall can get really mixed up because of some super back and forth mechanics. Don’t get me wrong you’ll have fun on any raid. But King’s Fall is tougher and absolutely requires a team working really well together. Getting that team on the same page might be the toughest part. With Vault Of Glass the most coordinated parts are calling out Oracles and calling out if you are on Mars or Venus. Any rag tag team can get their stuff together for that relatively fast or even inexperienced. King’s Fall requires “higher tier” fireteam coordination.
