Losing in Lightfall?

As cool and epic as it would be to schmack Calus and the Witness in the next expansion, I would like to see us lose, like in the Red War, and come back with even MORE epicness, THEN schmack Calus and the Witness. It was well done in Red War, and Guardians haven't really had a good "loss" recently (Cayde, yeah, but that was a while ago).

The issue I have is that the story is set to continue in a new saga. Unless this happens out of time/canon, then we can’t entirely lose, or even lose our light. My prediction is something along the lines of a truce/stalemate, perhaps the forces of light and dark will both live on through us and the guardians will be the primary conduits of both, in place of the traveller and the witness who will both be destroyed. The narrative has shifted since BL to imply that neither forces are inherently good or evil and that a more nuanced view is essential for victory.
