We could wax lyrical about the days of 3 lives, game over, git gud or go home.... but the overwhelming majority of those games, once they left the confines of the arcade, had built-in cheat codes because the developers correctly remembered that after all, it was a game, meant to be fun and "git gud or go home" isnt everybodys idea of fun. Now, this isnt me advocating for cheats, more how these services have managed to become as prominent as they are. Its the natural evolution of cheat codes, tip hotlines and gamesharks for an era where cheats are, by and large, persona non grata in many games. A bit like how Gamefaqs guides evolved into youtube guides.
