Crash to desktop trying to load into any activity

Hello, I would like to begin and say this is not an issue with my PC at all and I will explain why. Also, I play on Steam. In the past 3 days the game have been constantly crashing to desktop when trying to go into any activity / fly to the tower, I've tried A LOT of "fixes" on the internet but not a single one of them works, I will list everything I've tried so far: - Shader Cache cleaning / temp files removal. - Updating / Rolling back drivers for Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti (I used DDU for complete removal / reinstallation). - Switching from Game Ready driver and Studio Driver along with the removal of Geforce Experience while only keeping the driver. - Uninstalling / Reinstalling the game 4 different times, one of them was on Epic Games and the game still crashed. - Formatting my PC and literally only have Steam + Destiny. - Making sure I have no overclocking whatsoever (I have read overclocking doesn't work well with destiny's engine). - Completely uninstalling Gaming Services from Microsoft and installing a specific version that a lot of users found working for them, didn't work for me. - Disabled any overlay that might interfere with the game. - Making sure I have less than 300 friends on steam (Yes this was a possible cause for crashes too believe it or not). There might be more things that I did but I lost track at this point. But then it dawned on me, what if the issue isn't from my PC it might be from the account itself or something happened in game to cause my account across all my 3 characters to become "stuck" in orbit, so I asked a friend to borrow their account to see if the issue was indeed from my account. And Lo and Behold, the game worked flawlessly. I managed to go to the tower roamed around took some bounties even launched a strike and the game was smooth as butter. This is the ONLY solution that worked with me. My account at the moment is basically frozen in orbit and I can't do anything. I write this here because I want to see other people who have the same problem to try and see if their friend's account will indeed work with their own PC and it's not an issue from their end. Bungie please fix this. Edit: As of 26/09/2022 The game started to work randomly out of nowhere without having to change anything and I'm able to go into any activity, I would assume bungie did something about this but I'm still unsure. However, I'll keep this post without deleting it just so people can see that they are not alone in this and eventually it will get fixed, just make sure if you do have a problem make sure to mention it in forums so bungie can continue to look into this.

  • As of 27/09/2022, it is still crashing, both the Steam and Epic versions I have. Thought I'd make one more comment on this, to keep it up for visibility.

    • Hi there! Please follow the steps outlined below to provide an accurate system report. Please do not follow these steps while Destiny 2 is running. 1. Restart your machine. 2. When you log in, please click on the Windows icon, then type dxdiag. If typed correctly, only one command should appear. Please click it. (If you need to enter the credentials of an administrator of the PC, please do so). 3. Allow the tool to run. A green bar should progress on the bottom portion of the window. If you receive any dialogue boxes as it progresses, please address them accordingly. 4. Once the tool is completed, please click on the "Save All Information" button. Save the resulting text file in an easy to find location, such as your Desktop. Then, close the tool. 5. Open the text file you just created and copy all of text to your clipboard by selecting all of it (Ctrl+A) and copying it (Ctrl +C OR rightclick and click Copy). Then, close the file. 6. Go to pastebin.com 7. In the text box below, paste all of the text in the box. 8. If you would like to make your system specs hidden, you can change the Paste Exposure to Unlisted. This will hide it from the Public section of the site but still allow people to view your Paste. Then, click the Create New Paste button. 9. Copy the resulting URL and reply back to this comment with the URL.

Hey guys, I came here due to this exact same issue and found your post when looking around. I played Destiny 2 for pretty much 8+ hours today with no issues before this started, I was helping a friend that recently came back to the game (they are on PS5) after being away from it for a couple of years. At night we were doing patrols on the Castellum as I was teaching him about resonance weapons, crafting and whatnot while trying to get him a mini-tool, after running around there for a couple of hours the game froze and crashed twice in a matter of 15min or so after no issues the whole day, after the last crash I got out of the PC for a bit. After I came back in an hour or so and tried to join him back I found that I was unable to load into any destination at all. The game opens with no issues, I can access all of my characters, the store, the tabs, can move things around with DIM, but as soon as I try to load into any destination at all I encounter a hard crash (crash to desktop). Have tried everything available from my side, to my knowledge this looks a lot like some truncated issues server side. Got into a friend's account to test and was able to load into anywhere with no problems at all.

        • Now I have this issue too. +1 While it's not the power house of an PC I have, the problem still there. Tried loading into something just crashes the game. Noticing a sound, that wasn't there before. Sounds similar to cricket chirps which gets a little louder and then the crash happens.

          • Hello there, just to be a +1 person on this issue, same thing's happening to me as well. I similarly did a few rounds with resolving this problem:cache deletion, file verification, reinstallation of the game, and driver update but nothing worked. As you mentioned, I'm too just stuck in orbit, and the game crashes to desktop 1-2 seconds after the countdown to the "travel to X destination/activity". I too hope this issue will be resolved as soon as possible.

              • I borrowed a Destiny 2 / Steam account to test and it worked. With the borrowed account, I was able to cleanly load into activities and fly on planets. Result of the test, it's not due to the players not being able to load into activities, it's the account frozen in orbit.
