Why is Darkness that of the Mind that of Consciousness? Why is Light that of Will that of Sacrifice? Is Fate only an illusion as The Witness claims?
In Rhulk’s past we see the events that shaped him. Events and choices which lead him to his end. Yet there is a pattern at work here. We learn through stories told from elders past down that The Traveler or least a Traveler was present at Lubrae. For a time their people grew, made technological advancements, and thrived under The Traveler’s gift. There is also a pattern of doubt and betrayal between Rhulk and his Father. A conflict that ultimately ended their entire home and race. We saw how the internal conflict of grief inflicted on Uldren Sov by Riven twisted him and ended with ourselves being tested between Light and Dark. Then again we were tested within the Luna Pyramid when The Witness tried to sway us with despair. The Emperor Calus was broke and given himself completely over to The Darkness through shame over his relationship with his Daughter. The Eliksni were turned from The Light by The Witness’s manipulations as well. Not simply left behind for no reason. Mythrax himself once corrupted by The Darkness outlines this. An example of their civilization turned on themselves and on each other. With The Krill we saw how Sathona was manipulated by The Witness which began her and her people transforming into Hive. Similarly their civilization also experienced a great divide among their people and turned on themselves and turned each other. These patterns and stories of blind treachery and great division between worlds:
It was them versus us. Then it was us versus them. I ignored who "us" was. I forgot who "them" was.
as Rhulk puts it.
The Traveler is not going around building up civilizations and then just leaving them in disarray. The Witness is using the power of Darkness which is of consciousness and of mind to misguide civilizations away from The Traveler and The Light. The Light is bestowed, it is a gift, not taken but predetermined by a force not yet fully understood or fully revealed to us. The Darkness is a choice. A choice made out of grief, doubt, and anger. A choice made by misguided and often isolated individuals that hold grave consequence beyond that individual alone. The Traveler isn’t simply leaving civilizations or ignoring others. Those civilizations who give in to The Darkness turn on Life, they turn on themselves, and they turn on each other. Engulfing their own people and worlds in an all consuming destruction. These are the rules The Witness set in The Flower Game. This is his design. That’s why The Traveler leaves or ignores. They have chosen Darkness. The beings left behind will naturally over time grow with animosity and seek retribution towards The Traveler. The truth of that particular civilization history is then told as such muddled with each generation and past down. Of course in other timelines we Humanity did the same as all these civilizations did. We turned from The Traveler’s gift and turned on each other which brought The Dark Future.
Thankfully Osiris, The God of Resurrection, tell us this the perfect timeline. A notion also supported by our paraversal friend, Xur. A timeline where we Guardians do not give in to The Witness’s manipulation. One where we do not give in to grief, doubt, and anger being whispered to us. One where we are Protectors of The Light. Before us there never was a Guardian. There never was a Protector of The Traveler till now. It is this way and not some other way because it was determined to be by The Gardener. Not content with playing the game by The Witness’s rules she turned herself into a Law Of The Universe.
Wanna know a secret?
I know which Law:
Now this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky; And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
Young Wolf you are the key. You are preordained by The Light. Chosen to be its Guardian. Your Will and Sacrifice will safeguard Life.
It is your Destiny.
SIDE NOTE:
I also did some further googling on the star system Alpha Lupi. Turns out that this visible to the eye light from Alpha Lupi fluctuates from bright blue to dark every 7 hours. This is because scientists believe there is a binary Star system causing these fluctuations. One bright star and one dark star.
An Umbral Sun in The Dark Future, an Umbral Sun at Lubrae...sounds familiar
Seems all roads lead to The South Gate.
Eyes up, Guardian.
Why is Darkness that of the Mind that of Consciousness? Why is Light that of Will that of Sacrifice? Is Fate only an illusion as The Witness claims?
- while darkness is about consciousness now, Light is about creation. Not will or sacrifice
In Rhulk’s past we see the events that shaped him. Events and choices which lead him to his end. Yet there is a pattern at work here. We learn through stories told from elders past down that The Traveler or least a Traveler was present at Lubrae.
- assuming there is more then one traveler
The Light is bestowed, it is a gift, not taken but predetermined by a force not yet fully understood or fully revealed to us.
- this is wrong. It’s the Gardner.
The Traveler isn’t simply leaving civilizations or ignoring others. Those civilizations who give in to The Darkness turn on Life, they turn on themselves, and they turn on each other.
- this is almost 100% wrong. The Ammonites, Ecuemene, Harmony, Fallen, Humanity. None of these gave into despair. Only one example exists, the Hive. Rhulk was an individual, not a species.
Of course in other timelines we Humanity did the same as all these civilizations did. We turned from The Traveler’s gift and turned on each other which brought The Dark Future.
- Dark Future was caused by Guardians becoming corrupted, notably our Guardian starts the dominoes falling
Thankfully Osiris, The God of Resurrection, tell us this the perfect timeline
. - 100% false
Before us there never was a Guardian. There never was a Protector of The Traveler till now
. - false. They just failed.
It is this way and not some other way because it was determined to be by The Gardener. Not content with playing the game by The Witness’s rules she turned herself into a Law Of The Universe
. - it’s the Winnower and Gardner playing the Game. The Witness isn’t a player, it’s a pawn. Again, Unveiling shows this and I quoted it. Have fun

7 RepliesFrom the Winnower in Unveiling: The Wager “It was the gardener that chose you from the dead. I wouldn't have done that. It's just not in me. But now that they have invested themself in you, you are incredibly, uniquely special. That wandering refugee chose to make a stand, spend their power to say: "Here I prove myself right. Here I wager that, given power over physics and the trust of absolute freedom, people will choose to build and protect a gentle kingdom ringed in spears. And not fall to temptation. And not surrender to division. And never yield to the cynicism that says, everyone else is so good that I can afford to be a little evil." The gardener is all in. They are playing for keeps. And they are wrong. Or so I argue: for, after all, the universe is undecidable. There is no destiny. ” Don’t think your idea adds up.

1 ReplyWell the problem with your theory is that the guardians are already using the darkness powers. Moreover, it has been mentioned that darkness is just a tool and the difference between light and darkness doesn't matter.

I have mad respect for you guardian. Doing irl research on astronomy to further delve into lore is a true sign of dedication. -

In the 70s, the term “Prime Wolf” had a different context entirely. -
4 RepliesThe Gardner isn’t a law of the universe. It’s an entity. Inside the Traveler. The Winnower ascribes the thoughts and actions of the Traveler as the Gardners. Osiris doesn’t know this is the perfect timeline. Elsie is the one with the time shenanigans. Osiris was just a nerd with a fancy computer.
