This was last addressed in the TWAB dated 7/7/22:
Missing Artifice Armor Slot: The Indiana Jones of Bugs Earlier in the Season, players noticed an issue where there was a missing Artifice armor slot. While the issue was fixed, we wanted to take a moment to explain what’s going on. The first fix, notated in a previous hotfix article found here (*), did address the found issue, but only for players who hadn’t yet logged in for the Season. Unfortunately, for those players who have already logged into the current Season and have lost their Artifice armor sockets, a second, trickier fix is currently in the works, and requires some additional time. * https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/51440 With each new Season comes new gear and with that, certain aspects of the game are moved, improved, or downright removed for new features. Such is the case for the mods found on the Seasonal Artifact. Usually, this process is straightforward, but when the Grasp of Avarice armor came underneath the spotlight, we found that under certain circumstances, some armor pieces would lose their Artifice sockets. This happened because as the Seasons turn over, the artifact mods are stripped from the socket and with nothing else in the slot to replace it, the socket attempts to resolve itself in a way that causes that aspect of the armor to become hidden. Normally, our process to avoid such a situation is to swap out the old Seasonal mods with their deprecated variants (empty mods which carry no gameplay effects). Bungie’s Ryan Hammond describes this “switcharoo” by saying, “Think of it as Indiana Jones swapping out the gold idol for the bag of sand.” Off by even a small bit, and everything can come crashing down. In this instance, some of the bags of sand we used were not quite right. We are working on a fix for this to ensure that everything registers as intended, but these little sockets are craftier than they appear. The true work comes with the next fix, which includes using a script to comb through all characters on all accounts to reinitialize specific components that make up these particular armor items, thus restoring all those lost sockets. As you can imagine, this takes time and it’s a complicated road to travel. We’re committed, though, and we are working hard on getting everything back to where it is supposed to be. As this is taking a little bit longer than expected, we wanted to update you on the process so far and communicate that this bug has not been forgotten. We appreciate your patience as the teams continue to work towards a sustainable solution that all can enjoy.
While they have fixed the issue insofar as new Artifice Armor will drop with the appropriate additional slot, I have to assume that replacing the lost Artifice Slots might come down to the devs having to: • Attempt to determine who completed Master GoA encounters that can drop Artifice Armor • Contacting those players to ask for a (“hey, please be honest”) list of which Armor pieces currently in their possession lost Artifice Slots • Recreating those items with matching stat distributions and levels of Masterwork investment. Such a solution, if undertaken, would understandably take a number of man hours to enact. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

(΄◉◞౪◟◉`)
A script can tell them in minutes who got that armor, another script can ID broken armor and what it’s current stats are Once you have that data. A third script can deploy new fixed armor Really like the line their fixed only worked for those that didn’t log into new season Didn’t know you can choose what season you log into. Like you have one choice. Current new season or no log in Half arsed try at fixing
Really like the line their fixed only worked for those that didn’t log into new season Didn’t know you can choose what season you log into. Like you have one choice. Current new season or no log in
It’s not that players somehow avoided the bug by not engaging in new content; it’s that players who did not log into the game at all until after the initial fix went through did not run the risk of having their Artifice Slot removed. As stated in the previously quoted text:
This happened because as the Seasons turn over, the artifact mods are stripped from the socket and with nothing else in the slot to replace it, the socket attempts to resolve itself in a way that causes that aspect of the armor to become hidden.
When a player with a Seasonal Artifact Mod set in an Artifice Slot logged in following the start of the new Season, the game attempted to resolve both the Mod and the Slot with the Mod being removed and the Slot being effectively “hidden”. The fact that this only happened to players who had already logged into the game prior to the fix means that a player’s account only attempted to remove the Artifact Mod when said player was logged in. This in turn means the only way to avoid having the Artifice Slot removed at the start of the new Season was either to have not had a Seasonal Mod set in the Slot when you logged in or to simply have not logged into Destiny 2 at all until after the first fix went through. Obviously players could not have planned for either of these were things because they didn’t know that the bug existed when the Season started, meaning it was largely left up to whether a player just happened to have not had an Artifact Mod in the Artifice Slot when they logged in or if they were just too busy or uninterested in the new Season to log in until after the fix to determine who was spared from the bug. The devs were not claiming that players were somehow able to “not engage with the new Seasonal content while still somehow playing the game” to avoid the bug. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

How else can you log in, you are forced into logging into latest season It’s worded like we had a choice, we didn’t and don’t have a choice of seasons bingle broke it and really aren’t on top of the fix

 • They don't hire based on talent or merit at this company. That has been painfully obvious for years.
