SBMM isn’t the issue, connection to the servers IS
Fairly self explanatory. I’ve seen a lot of posts declaring that the major and usually solitary reason that players dislike skill-based matchmaking is due to the fact that connection is no longer prioritized. While I find that justifiable as I dislike lag just as much as the next person, I also think playing with players in a similar skill range is important for a healthy gameplay experience when you’re playing against others. Less likely to be frustrated as opposed to matching against someone who is several brackets higher than you in terms of skill. I’d personally like for SBMM to stick around this time for the long haul, I just believe that in order for it to work properly, Bungie needs to shell out a lot of this eververse/light fall/witch queen/dawning/festival of the lost/guardian games money into having better dedicated and stable servers, with a much larger capacity. Im sure it’s just as demotivating for a player to not be able to log in to the game every time a big event/update/season comes out due to capacity issues on what is considered not a “small” game, ESPECIALLY not with cross platform now being a factor. Not bashing on Bungie, just simply offering a solution that while it may not be super simple to fix, is worth putting more thought and conveying a plan to their community. Here’s to staying hopeful 🍻
