Trials SBMM

Why exactly doesn't trials have sbmm? I don't exactly see it being fair that myself who hasn't gone flawless but wants trials gear has to be matched with people who have gone flawless 50+ times and sometimes 100+ times. It just seems like major gatekeeping and shuts out newer people to pvp that want to experience more higher level play. As well as Bungie has seemed to blatantly disregard some of the bugs that plague the new arc classes in terms of unbalanced play. I am sorry if this seems like more of a complain post if anything I just wanted to share my views on how trials has been for the longest time in hopes of seeing other peoples opinions to how trials affects their play and the people they get matched against. Thank you all for coming to my ted talk and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend of farming and grinding.

  • I stopped reading after your first sentence because it’s quite clear you don’t get it. Trials is for the best of the best. I am not one of them and I’m ok with that. Not everyone should get a participation trophy. Bungie already helps the less skilled with the flawless pool and freelance. The issue is you need to get better rather than expected people to hand you stuff. With that said, I’m not trying to be mean but you clearly don’t understand the whole purpose of trials. It should be exclusive!

    • 1) Trials was not designed for the average player in mind 2) If you want the gear, earn it. If you're not good enough, find a team to carry you/teach you 3) It's cliche, but the only way is to git gud, or stop playing. 4) SBMM doesn't work - just go to any CoD/Apex/Fortnite forum 5) The sooner you accept that high end game modes like the original Comp, Trials of the Nine, Trials of Osiris was implemented to reward only the best, the sooner you'll either do something to improve your chances, or find another game mode and stop demanding free handouts when you haven't put in the grind to earn it.

    • You can literally lose 100% of games and still get all the loot aside from adepts? I totally get that losing more than winning especially in 3v3s can get frustrating I mean hell I used to be terrible at trials, but all it takes is persistence and the willingness to make friends with a similar goal to you so you can practice and farm together.

    • You’ve played a grand total of 183 crucible hours, most of these “sweats” have thousands of hours of crucible gameplay under their belt. Who deserves the loot more? You or them?

    • I am not trying to skill shame here. What do you mean by "experience high level play" in combination with SBMM? When I read that I envision playing against top players, not playing lifetime 0.9s like myself trying to get to seven wins. I'm curious what your take is.

      • It’s end game PVP and should be difficult IMO. The idea of free lance allows the average player to get a taste of it but if you’re not playing with a team in the normal mode, you wind up getting batted around.

        • Even if you’ve gone flawless multiple times without being a cheesy gatekeeping bum. You run into the most toxic pieces of garbage to ever pick up a controller. Sbmm won’t fix the cheese meta or the toxic PvP community. PvP is on a landslide tbh

        • no to Trials SBMM - made Comp ridiculously toxic. But I want them to bring back win-based matchmaking. SBMM is not nearly as good as you people make it out to be.

          • In a game mode that requires 7 wins straight you want to implement SBMM that would at best lead to a 50/50 win rate. Making going flawless almost impossible. Think before you type.

Best Community Support Award Winners... - old

Trials, by its nature, simply could not work with a completely fair matchmaking algorithm. And knowing that, you then understand just how unfair Trials - and by extension, CBMM - really is. To go flawless you need, what, 7 wins (it's been a while since I, well, cared...). Assuming that each match is 'fair', and there's a 50/50 chance of winning a match. So to win 7 matches (boons or whatever aside), there's a ~0.8% chance of winning 7 games in a row. Trials needs unbalanced matches in order to even remotely appear to be anything more than a lottery. Trials simply needs CBMM to work, and SBMM would destroy it. If that doesn't tell you how -blam!- CBMM really is, nothing will...

                • you know, someone sent me a message offering me services to go flawless for only $89 USD, after i made a rant about this exact thing. Why doesn't bungie ban those who offer instead of ask for video proof.

                • Trials, at it's Core, is not Designed for New Players. It's a mode designed for the sweaty of sweat, without SBMM interfering. The concept of Trials having open game is it actually shows True Skill over SB Skill. You can actually see where you stand. SBMM would only hinder that. As what you learn from SBMM you then take those lessons and see how well they hold up. Like getting a new weapon out of pve and want to see how it performs against players. If you want easier matches, wait till Sunday for Flawless Pool to kick in.

                  • Trials is not worth your time… Honestly… Why do you even bother with it? Trials gear is unnecessary in ANY part of the game, and is not worth the frustration to get it. Just stop playing trials. It doesn’t have enough low to mid skilled players to have decent matchmaking. It’s all sweats. No point in trying at all. I’ve never played a single trials game. It’s not worth it for me, and I know it. Just stop playing trials, and both your mood and experience with this game will vastly improve.

In other words, you want the good players out of the way so you can have an easier path to a flawless run. Gotcha, Bungie should probably just go ahead and sell a free completed 7 win non-flawed card for 50 legendary shards and a vial of guardian tears. But you have to have never gone flawless before - that's the rule.

                    • You can get trials gear without going flawless. Flawless just gets you better gear. I love SBMM in Control. But unless Bungie changes the point, the be all end all goal of Trials, to go Flawless and prove yourself and your team “good enough”, I don’t think the mode should have SBMM. This mode really is more like a tournament. One that anyone of any skill can enter and keep entering. Knowing full well the kind of people vying to reach the lighthouse. Now I think the flawless pool is fine for the later half of the weekend, and Freelance is ok every so often. And maybe Freelance gets SBMM, but I don’t know that it’s all that needed, as some always solo players manage to go flawless. It’s a different type of challenge, but can be easier too. Here’s the thing, going flawless will not exactly be easier with SBMM. For anyone. Your win rate may go up. Making your journey to 7 wins faster, but even matching up against teams of similar skill, you’re likely to still lose a handful of matches on a single passage.

I see your side and the top players point . I think better balance would be say scale the difficulty on a card like rounds 1-3 could be just below or same level as you, then 4-5 same as you or little above , then have 6-7 fair game for anyone so you still need to beat top players but get a decent start around your level . Think something similar would still keep difficulty but also you won’t be getting constantly 5-0 every first or second game on card. Think there does need something for those that reset cards on purpose if this is the best pvp end game everyone talks about . There should not be a way for higher rank players to keep looping through the pools haven’t gone flawless as that’s same as you asking about SBMM how do u know the top players are facing top players in Trials? Seems most of the time the card is easy for top players to go 7 so they don’t mind resetting at 6 to start all over since most opponents I’m guessing are way worse with no skill balance.
