So, I just wanted to post my thoughts after taking some time to research all of the drama currently going on with divinity, and even though I’m not somebody that has a platform to let my voice be heard, I wanted to put my two cents in about this because I hate when the community tears itself apart instead of having civil debates, even if they don’t like something put out.
Divinity, is it a weapon that’s too good? Not really. At best, it’s simply just a quality of life weapon that is used to help clear content that people are having trouble with. Do I personally think that the weapon needs a nerf? Again, not really, because the weapon is like I said, a quality of life weapon to improve your damage. It’s not a requirement. If Bungie is going to go forth with a nerf for the weapon, then I wanted to look at some possibilities that they could use to do this.
The first thing that I was looking at was to just simply take away the crit bubble. By doing this, you will limit the options of what you can use to crit on bosses. This would mean that strictly precision weapons would only benifit from the full damage potential that the Divinity would offer because they would get both the debuff damage, and the crit damage. In this case, if guardians still wanted to utilize weapons like Gjallarhorn, then they would still be able to, but they wouldn’t get the additional crit damage. The end result in doing this would mean that, the divinity would still be a great utility tool for all fireteams, but if you wanted to benifit from the full amount of damage output, then you will have to land your precision shots. This change means that you would still get your additional damage, but the skill ceiling for actually hitting your shots is taken into affect.
My second idea for the Divinity isn’t as much of a nerf, as much as it is a re-work. Why not provide the weapon with an alternate firing mode, so that fireteam will have to decide: “Do we want to use the debuff, or do we want the crit bubble?”. This would be a game changer because this could open up a lot of different avenues for other debuff combinations to use while the divinity is in its “crit” firing mode. Guardians may be enticed to bring a tether hunter so that they can tether the boss, put the crit bubble is, and then shoot off some rocket shots at the bubble. After the tether debuff wears off, then you can put Divinity into “Debuff” firing mode to take advantage of precision weapons. I personally think this specific Avenue would really help make the Divinity stand out as a multi-use utility weapon.
Additionally , no matter which route that is taken, I really believe that if people think that the divinity is too good at its job, then the only recommendation that I can make to halfway fixing that is to remove the weapons ability to tap the trigger to keep the crit bubble up, so that you can preserve ammo. Make it to where you have to hold the button down the whole time, which means that you’ll be forced to expend ammo much faster.
Last but not least, the issue at hand is that people are wanting to nerf the divinity because it makes the Worlds First Race less challenging, then why can’t we do something as simple as just disable the weapon for the duration of the Worlds First Race to add an extra layer of difficulty.
At the end of the day, I personally love the Divinity, and I honestly think that it is working as Bungie has intended it to work. If people think that the weapon makes content too easy, then I’d say the easiest solution is to just not run it so you can challenge yourself. If there is a nerf in the air, then I would really like to see one of the above changes applied, simply due to the fact that I don’t believe that the Divinity is just another Exotic to look at in my collections because it no longer serves a purpose due to it being rendered completely useless after being nerfed. Exotic weapons are supposed to feel exactly as that, an Exotic weapon. If we take away what makes the Divinity such an amazing utility weapon, then what’s the point of it even being an Exotic?
If you have any feedback on this please let me know, I would love to hear what my fellow guardians have to say about all of this drama currently circulating the community.
I love you all, I can’t wait to harness the power of Strand, while I stand side by side with my fellow guardians to conquer the challenges that Lightfall will bring us!
