I have no idea what the PvP team thinks it's doing with Control re: quitter penalties

You all - force us into SBMM so anyone over a 1.3 k/d is forced into lobbies that are unforgiving, laggy, unfun, and full of hostile players who are also unhappy they're forced into ultra meta world championships - force us into the most unpopular, large, boring maps that don't encourage engagement and instead take more time to traverse from spawn, to the hot zones, only to die from someone far outside of your range who was posted up waiting for you - force us into staying in these unfun matches on unfun maps by banning us if we quit I'm not sure anyone working on PvP right now understands the fundamental pain points we are having, my benefit of the doubt is gone Bungie i'm sorry i have a 1.8 k/d and i'm apparently the problem in pvp for everybody but congrats, problem solved: i quit pvp, this sucks. i hope that was the solution y'all wanted! can't suspend me if i don't play.

  • If you can't keep people from leaving, punishing them just means less people playing. Maybe figure out why people are leaving and address that issue. Casual modes shouldn't have leaver penalties. They probably shouldn't have SBMM either. I'm an advocate of SBMM in trials where it's supposed to be sweaty. It also doesn't solve the issue. People will still leave. And anyone who doesn't feel like playing an entire game short handed is now stuck slogging it out and likewise gets penalized for leaving. Stranding players in bad experiences is not good for business. Queue times are not long enough to make lobby hopping painful and if one or two people have left you can leave to! It's likely a loss anyway. Just chalk it up and move on. Terrible idea. Shame on you Bungie. You're ineptitude is showing

  • Instead of fixing the issues causing people to quit they add a penalty. Great

    • "You left a competitive match before it was complete. Quitting competitive matches negatively impacts the experience for other players." Oh yeah? Well I left because the other players were negatively impacting MY experience. I didn't want to put up with it, so I left. The enemy team is cheating, my teammates are trolls, etc., I leave because of it and I'M the bad guy? Yeah, that's fair. #PulledABungie

        • Quitting penalties, like freelance on every mode, is a low-effort band-aid fix to much larger problems.

        • Quitter penalties in a “causal” game mode will destroy what player base is left. Good job Bungo.

        • Almost like Bungie doesn't want use to play outside of 3 games a week. I got error code currant (Bungie error in orbit) and got suspended when I haven't even left a game.

          • I think quitter penalties in a game with no knowledge of what map you're going to play on until you're already committed to the match (or map voting), no real reward for playing in the first place, and seemingly no attempt at lobby balancing (and remember, Bungie admitted to knowing the outcome of matches before they even started) is a poor knee-jerk reaction to an issue that doesn't even matter in the first place. It's quickplay Valor matches, not CDL.

            • Quick play quitter penalty…That’s it after 8 years I quit since Bungie doesn’t care about pvp. MM is and has been horrible for some time now an with not many good maps how can you not quit from matches. Root cause analysis is Bungie does not have a clue. Game deleted. See ya wouldn’t want to be ya Bungo😂

Trust, I’m a casual 1.3kd player, yes I have 311 flawless cards and yes I do play average 1.7 but honestly this matchmaking is so dogshit. Before you sit there and judge, I’m in the UK, when you are playing people from Asian servers on a UK host because of skill based matchmaking that’s not fun for anyone. As I said I’m a casual pvp player and yet every lobby is filled with 2kds and top 500s. Everyone knows control is supposed to be a relaxed game mode where you can go and have fun. Control is effectively ruined because you are forced to play terrible maps with extremely laggy and sweaty opponents every game when all you want to do is have fun. Just because you have a high skill level doesn’t mean you have to suffer cause I’m suffering with you, neither does the lesser skilled players. However if you genuinely dislike the pvp and you are not good at pvp simply put in the effort and work to get better. I went from playing a average .8 to a 1.7 every trials week and I’m a full time student. Stop complaining about the skill gap and just put in the effort to get better.

                  • They are trying to keep the Fortnite kids around as long as possible. They only care about new players and couldn’t care less about those dedicated to PvP.

I like how Bungie created a penalty system for an issue they're the root cause of since they're so intent on having SBMM in a casual playlist. Big brain move there.

                    • I'm fine staying in lobbies, and I get how players are affected when someone leaves (as a beginner I have a low k/d rate too) - but I've been getting penalized for the frequent power outages due to wildfires in my area, and also for other Bungie server disconnects. Bungie might do better with random extra rewards for those who stay in lobbies than with penalties. I just want to add, in my experience, most players have been very helpful and supportive (if more than a bit bloodthirsty in PvP - how do y'all move so fast?)

                    • Bungie really took a dump on PvP the past few seasons. I'm still not a fan of AE & I'm not a fan of their new matchmaking. Not even a CBMM vs SBMM for me. I don't care if I go up against nothing but people in my skill brackets - but the disconnects, lag, & quitting is horrible.

Are they "forcing" you to continue playing, too? No salt, for real. Maybe an unpopular statement, but just curious. Just find something else to do that's fun. Show them by letting the numbers dwindle. I'm fine with the change, personally. I get tired of seeing people leave because they're a point (Yes, literally) a point down. Clearly we have people farming KD as well.....and leave when they're bored or full from kills. These rules were fine for Trials and Comp, and it was crickets. I don't even think it will stand because of the blowback.

                      • For years the only thing that kept me playing destiny was pvp. I didn’t start playing the game for the pvp side but as the updates became boring and repetitive pvp was the only diversity of experience you could find. However I saw the writing on the wall and stop feeling invested in pvp about a year and a half ago. I can’t express what a great choice that was. Can’t recommend enough letting it go if you find you care more about the quality of an experience more than the ones making it something isint adding up. On a separate note trying to force people to not leave something when there are reasons so many leave is an omission that bungie doesn’t care about solving the problems instead they simply are interested in treating symptoms. Destiny is such a sad case of such a strong vanilla product that shamelessly has been left to flounder when the long term could have been amazing. Watching the community struggle with the realization they care more than bungie has possibly been one of the most entertaining experiences I have had in gaming.
