The point of moving the day 1 raid from Saturday to Friday is so that bungie can have devs at the studio ready to fix any problems that may arise and ensure a fair world's first race. This decision is putting the few people that race for world's first before the wider community.
I co-run an active clan of mostly average players that love raiding. During the last 3 day 1 raids we've been getting more and more teams competing to try and beat the raid day 1. None of us are trying for world's first. None of us cared about being booted once or twice from the day 1 Vow. We just enjoy all coming together and trying to beat the raid day 1 with contest, even if most of us fail.
We expected a similar release date for this upcoming day 1, second Saturday after the season launch. We got about 6 teams together in preparation assuming it would be on a Saturday once again, and several more would have likely formed if the launch date had stayed consistent. However with the announcement of the day 1 being a work/school day we've had several teams fall apart due to people having things they can't skip.
Day 1 raiding is my favorite part of this game. It's the thing I look forward to most. With this change I'm seeing so many people drop out of this awesome event, people that shouldn't have to. Would many of them have completed it? No, but it's still a great experience either way, and I'm not happy that people will have to miss out in order to ensure a fair world's first race, that none in my clan care one bit about.
