I think it tells a lot about how bad Trials is when a 50% win rate is close to top 30% according to destiny tracker

If Trials would be in a healthy spot, a 50% win rate wouldn't be on 30% top leaderboard across all platforms. This does not only show how tiny the "good players" playerbase is, but also how bad the average player is in Trials. You could easily say that Trials is for the Top 30% of the pvp community on all platforms, not for the majority. Edit: The numbers are LIFETIME win rate, not just since the rework.

  • Videogames are about fun. If you have fun when you play then the mode is for you, if you’re struggling to find fun in any game mode then that mode prolly isn’t for you.

  • I'm going to say a lot that will more than likely upset someone......but here goes. PvP cannot be made easier even if Bungie hand something out / destroy the skill gaps. Something I feel they keep failing to realize much like the casual pvp player. Whatever meta breaking gear they add..........the best players will use. You can try and kill the skill gap........the best will still find a way to be good with that. PvP right now overall (not just trials) is suffering from a triple fold problem with multiple sub splits in them. Matchmaking - Has been an overall mess and feels more often than not like you're either being fed to someone or you're the one being fed. There is no inbetween. I have my theories but keeping myself aware of those theories makes playing the game less enticing. The sandbox - For every nerf bungie does, they manage to overlook a problem elsewhere. Lord of Wolves has risen again for example to be in a busted state when paired up with the right setup and player. The playerbase - You either like pvp or you don't. The trouble is no one accepts losing very well and frankly it's on us as a community to try and be better about it. PvP in Destiny regardless of how you view it......will never ever be competitive. It's a nice dream but it's just that.....a dream. These three issues in some way or another do intertwine but there's only 1 issue we can tackle as a community since Bungie has direct control of the other 2. Trials or PvP for that matter will never be in a healthy spot so long as these 3 issues remain.....and I can say with 80% confidence that these 3 issues aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Just the way I feel, backed up with experience within the game. Maybe one day Bungie will finally get it together.........or maybe we're condemned to suffer to the end of the game.

    • I’ll let you in on a little secret, Most Destiny players suck. Really bad. As I’ve gone back to other PvP games I realized that the average player for most other games would absolutely smash a Destiny player if they got even a day to adjust to the game.

      • It shows that Trials isn’t competitive. It’s Predatory. In Major League Baseball right now? Sixteen of the 30 teams are playing .500 baseball or better (won half of their games or more). That’s what a competitive league looks like. The fact that only 30% of teams in Trial can do the same shows that there is a lopsided skill gap, and therefor most matches aren’t competitive. Remember. This is AFTER Bungie overhauled Trials and added a weak form of SBMM. Imagine how bad the numbers used to be. And now you understand why the playlist kept self-destructing.

          • Trials IS for the 30%. They just need that other 70% queuing in to justify spending time on the mode. And given the numbers have been in steady decline basically since it came back, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ice the mode again, or basically just do away with anything flawless and make it another casual mode. They’ve never been successful with anything they’ve labeled competitive. It just doesn’t work for how they structure this game. They’ve reduced Gambit to Quickplay. They’ve neutered Iron Banner to just participation. Comp has been so neglected it’s basically non existent. Trials is basically the last thing to chop.

That actually doesn't sound all that bad seeing as how the mode is meant to be really competitive. And you also have people that are only there to farm things at the same time. The truth is that over the course of the last year that mode has provided just about anyone that has even the slightest chance of going flawless with the opportunity to do so.
You could easily say that Trials is for the Top 30% of the pvp community on all platforms, not for the majority.
If something is supposed to be competitive you can't say this easily. If its competitive its not going to be giving people outcomes based on trying to give everyone (or Bungie's version of everyone) what the top 30% gets. You should basically be saying that "Trials shouldn't be competitive." Which is fine to say as long as you say what you mean.

          • Trials is Endgame PVP, what do you expect? I'd sure as sh*t not expect lower skilled PVE players to be good in GMs

            • Weird. Endgame pvp doesn’t have the majority of the players winning? Almost like it’s not made for the majority… GMs and Raids dont have the majority of pve players completing them either 🤦‍♂️

I've been saying it for ages. Destiny's average is below average for actual competitive shooters. Still love it though, at least when I'm in the mood for it. Haven't done much playing lately.

                  • Honestly, going flawless doesn’t mean anything to me. As long as I can get a decent roll of the base guns, I could care less. Let the high skill players have trials and their flawless runs. Keep it as is, as trials is in one of the better spots if they can fix the player engagement problem. Let the weekly rotator playlist be completely connection based. Give everything else sbmm

                    • That because Bungie against all they say doesn't know how to listen to the community. They feel it's their game and they know best. Which they have for years shown they haven't. But after years of complaining maybe its the community that has gotten it wrong? After all Bungie has made truck loads of money so what wrong could they have done?

                      • I’m not near 50% win rate and that’s why I don’t play it. In freelance I’m 50% ish but without freelance I won’t even bother. In fact, I haven’t played trials at all this season that I can remember and I haven’t even played the game at all in weeks. With that being said, I think 50% sounds reasonable for top 30% because 30% of people who play use modded controllers and/or spam abilities like no ones business and they beat each other half the time. I doubt there’s very many casual players playing Trials these days.

                      • There is just no reason for the casual player to run trials these days. The only weapon worth chasing for pve was reeds but now there is a better linear. The only other weapon worth chasing is eye of sol which is good if u love snipers. I used to run trials a lot but now why go through the pain of matchmaking for a mediocre gun

                          • really? thats actually slightly higher than i expected. The skill gap in this game really doesnt distance itself from the pack until the top 5-10% imo. i really dont expect players below that level to be winning most of their trials games.

                          • The sad thing is, this is trials in its best state since in the past it was only for the top 10-20% Bungie has clearly stated that they wanted a pvp endgame mode aimed at the top players. Personally I think they should shoot for the top 30-40% and make the mode more rewarding especially since in its current state, it's only rewarding if you win. On a fresh card if you lose without a single round win you get 0 rep for saint. It should be more like IB were you always get atleast 50 rep for a completion and then using trials gear adds rep boosters and of course wins also add boosters. I mean you only get like 6 trials weekends a season. Also trials gear should have a drop chance after completion of a match, with round wins increasing the odds.

                          • It's never been for the majority. That's what regular pvp is for. People have the concept twisted about the ability to queue solo. Bungie implemented the system to allow players to get their feet wet in the mode, not find success. The hope being that they would find a team to improve their chances. Instead the influx of bad players expecting success queuing solo is wild. At what point do people accept the level of ability they have, and be realistic as to the level of success it will achieve. So of course the win rates are skewed.
