So this may be controversial however, the logic is supported by Bungie’s statistical numbers.
The east fix is to remove the Flawless Pool.
Hear it out before we get toxic everyone. So with last weeks numbers we hit a round about 200,000 players. On average we had 30,000 active players at a time. I’m not sure of the console vs pc split but let’s say 60/40 console. Now we sit at 16,000 active for console. Roughly 25% of players go flawless so we drop down to 12,000 players in the non flawless pool and only 4,000 players in the flawless pool per hour. Now trials is based off of a win based card matchmaking. So, let’s drop the numbers drastically again. As you can see, the active numbers are miserable.
So how do we fix this, or at least try to make it better. Let’s look back at when trials was given back to us last September I believe. We saw the highest numbers Destiny 2 has ever seen. This is directly from a Bungie TWAB.
“Here are a few stats from the first weekend:
750k players played Trials – more than we have seen since the early days of Destiny 2. Not only that, 120k of those were first-time-ever players, and another 470k hadn’t played recently.
237k players went flawless, with 105K players going flawless for the first time ever!
Historical:
An average of 30% of active players played Trials each day this weekend, topping out at over 32% on Saturday. No day prior had ever gone above 21%.
Over 2.8M hours of Trials were played this weekend, eclipsing the highest prior single week total by a whopping -blam!- hours!”
So, let’s look at the reason(s) why people stayed and played. The activity had value of course. New loot alway brings people in. But let’s look past that.
People wanted to play. People played almost twice the amount of games as normal, again proven by numbers bungie released. The matches were fun. Players made it to the lighthouse more frequently (multiple runs) as well as the largest quantity of new players going flawless for the first time ever.
However, due to the amount of 5-0 games, bungie implemented the “Flawless Pool” in an effort to bring the amount of those games back in line. But by doing this we have seen a negative impact on the game mode from the second it was put in.
So, by removing it we allow for a larger player pool for the entire community as well as giving the community the incentive to play more games and go flawless multiple times. This has a secondary effect by removing the flawless pools, we also remove the want for players to continuously reset their cards. This is currently one of the biggest complaints the community has and by removing the flawless pool it will directly correlate to a reduced number of people resetting cards.
So guys give some feedback. Honest feedback and nothing toxic if you can help it!
