Bungie hears that and just thinks we want lots of monster thrown at us in waves. In their eyes it's been done.
They did something close to this with the haunted forest but it scaled difficulty too quickly and pretty much forced failure after so many rounds. Didn't reward well enough based on how far you made it. Overall it just came up short for what could be a good core game mode.
What players really seem to want when they ask for this is CoD zombies, or a gears of war type horde mode. Add some depth to it. Zombies does that well by adding a point system that you need to intelligently manage every run to buy upgrades and weapons, traps you can strategically use, ammo economy, the need to keep moving, buffs that change every attempt, buying and upgrading different weapons on the go, and very importantly you go until you fail or choose to leave. Every attempt is different and an adventure instead of just a grind.
