I will agree that Dungeons are a fantastic addition to the game as they provide more accessibility to endgame content, but at the end of the day, Dungeons serve as a way to be better prepared for raiding.
I get that most people don't raid, but it is undeniable that raids are what set Destiny apart from other games of its type. Without raids, Destiny becomes just another FPS game with a campaign and strike content. While I think the Witch Queen campaign was quite good, it is not enough to sustain the game on its own when compared to other game's campaigns. If Destiny did not have raids, most if not all of the "raiding community" would leave to find a more fulfilling game, resulting in the remainder of players playing Destiny in a casual manner, which is when the game tends to stagnate.
I really like that Bungie is creating ways for players to get bits and pieces of raid-style content as a solo or 3 person fireteam such as Dungeons and the Preservation mission, but the end goal of all of this is always to get to and complete the raid.

If the raiding community was such a sizable portion of the Destiny community as a whole or even the expansion buying part of the community I could Raids going away or downsizing being a bigger deal. But it is at best 10%. And while they may leave Destiny for other games, it would be after doing all the other stuff that is offered. They’re not playing Destiny only for the Raid.
