Morrowind is great

I got the Elder Scrolls bundle of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim the other day, decided to start with Morrowind cause why not. First hour in, I see a wizard fall from the sky screaming. THIS is exactly what I was expecting. Overall having a great time, joined the Mage guild. Any tips for beginners of the game regarding magic?

  • Going back to morrow wind is tough now, the combat is so janky. Oblivion… now there’s a game to get lost in. The atmosphere, the music, the character building, it still holds up well. Also, the npc’s are legendary meme gold.

Don't let Mobi fool you; Morrowind is the best of the mainline TES games.

    • I'll have to play it again at some point either with graphical mods or Skywind when it finally releases.

    • I'm with Sun King on this one. Every time I try to get into playing Morrowind, I end up playing Oblivion (or occasionally Skyrim) instead.

    • Every time I start playing I just revert to playing Oblivion instead. I really should spend a decent amount of time with it some day soon, cus it seems like something I would really properly like.

As soon as you can, get a constant effect enchant 1pt of slowfall on a random piece of clothing. It's not strong enough to be noticeable while falling, but likewise negate all fall damage. There will be boots you'll probably find rather quickly if you use the roads (and you should) that make you amazingly fast but will come with some pretty harsh side effects. You can minimize or negate entirely these side effects depending on your resist magic % at the time of equip; so drink a potion, cast a spell, etc., right before equipping and you'll be real happy you did. I believe you can extort some free spells from a balmora mage if you are able to break into the chest right in front of her and threaten her over her tastes in magic. There's an ancestral tomb near seyda neen that has a ring that has a constant effect that I believe boosts intelligence and wisdom as a constant effect? I'd have to fact check that but that's probably a good starting item for you, if you can survive the tomb. Beyond that, let me know if you want me info, in general or about magic.

      • The important question is, after you saw that wizard fall out of the sky, did you loot his body and try his spell scrolls for yourself?

        • The Mages guild has a chest of supplies that you are free to take from any town. Mark and Recall are nice to have so try and get those early. Do the quest lines from the Mage's guild as well, it's really neat and you get to become the top dog. Morrowind is still one of my fav games to date.

        • I've been thinking on and off about Morrowind--does it still hold up? Would it be worth it to try out given how far games have come since its release?

Yeah, such a great game...missing a rat that's right in front of me because my rat killing skill isn't high. So innovative, having a dice-roll system in a first person adventure game. Morrowind is so much fun, it almost beats mudding drywall.

            • Morrowind is my favorite Elder Scrolls games. I love wizards and magic-users in general and Morrowind’s magic system was great. Though I don’t remember exactly what I did or many tips in for the beginning, as it was so long ago. I do remember it being annoying at early levels. Combat was a pain. Just learn what you can fight and avoid what you cannot. Mages can be extremely good at traveling with all sorts of jumping, teleporting, and levitating spells. So if you cannot defeat a battle try going around it. Plus, summons are good. Especially just forming a wall of them.

            • I haven't touched Morrowind in years, if I remember right it was pretty good for being as old as it is. I have forgotten it too much, man that is way back. I enjoy Oblivion and really love the ability to use magic while a weapon is still equipped, also the music was nice. Skyrim 10th anniversary with mods for game improvement is my current favorite of the games.
