Master and solo flawless complete - my take on the dungeon
After clearing it multiple times with some master runs and my solo flawless done I believe that this dungeon is more or less a success, however that comes with a price in some areas.
Beginning - introducing mechanics is obviously out front and centre before the first boss and I thought it was done quite well. The adventure through the trap ridden areas was quite enjoyable on the blind run and definitely wasn’t frustrating to go through solo especially. I do think there should be hidden chests somewhere (maybe I missed some) since I’m not really getting any reward for spending 10 minutes in the opening, why not just grab a CP?
First boss - in a team of 3 this boss poses no real threat in normal but he does pack a bit of a punch on master but the encounter is fairly easy that said. Soloing this boss isn’t the most fun as it’s not that hard to stay alive and it’s just an endurance fight from then on considering his massive health bar. I definitely feel his health on solo runs could be reduced to guarantee 3 phases but for now 3-4 is the best we can do.
Sparrow part (scourge callback) - one of my favourite parts however I do think there should be some rewards for hitting all buttons or maybe add a hidden chest in the middle as a risky reward if you extended the time enough to snag it without dying. I also think it could be a little longer since it goes by fairly fast but overall it’s enjoyable.
Fallen shield - I like the idea and execution of this encounter but I definitely feel multiple runs will be a drag to go through. Adding a marker to identify the servitor immediately or even reducing the shield health could fix this issue in my opinion.
Final boss - yeah the shank is my least favourite part for sure. A full team is very fun when fighting (I even got a 1 phase) but soloing this boss is a drag and not remotely hard. You mainly just sit in the back and whittle away at the valus ta’shank that eats damage for breakfast. Spawning him once would be fine but fighting it 3 times makes the fight go WAY too long. I didn’t die to the insta kill water at the bottom on my solo run but I can already imagine how many future runs that will kill. Maybe the kill zone should be lowers a little bit to avoid needless deaths.
Overall I’d say it is easier to solo than most dungeons in the game but I find it more enjoyable to farm than shattered throne and pit personally. All I want are more secret chests and a slight improvement on how engaging boss fights are and I think bungie will be in the right direction for the dungeons of the future.
