This week was the most fun I’ve had in Trials since D1 when I went flawless. I fell out of the group I was in back then, and have been mostly unable to play trials since, despite loving it. I got excited when I heard about solo queue trials, but was massively disappointed when I actually stepped into it and got utterly destroyed over and over.
Communication is hands down the most important tool you can use in trials, and you lack that as a solo player. However, the enemy does not when you get put against three-stacks five matches in a row. Freelance actually gave me a fair chance, and allowed me to go flawless again despite not having a fireteam.
I’ve heard streamers talk about how keeping freelance trials would reduce the player pool, but I don’t entirely understand how that’s the case. Most people will still prefer getting their team and fighting together to reach the lighthouse, and the playerbase will still be bigger than it was when it wasn’t matchmade whatsoever.
What freelance trials does is take the concept that was attempted by adding matchmaking in the first place and makes it actually enjoyable and fair. I would be heartbroken if this feature is removed.
