First and foremost, as you said you like vampires I must recommend the show “Shiki”, and the game “Vampyr”. Great pieces of vampire media. As for my favorites, it’s a tie between vampires, and faeries. As far as vampires go, I’m the exact opposite, I like the more mystical ones. Blood & shadow magic, weakness to sunlight, etc. I also like it when vamps are cast in a sympathetic light; they aren’t as fun when they’re just pure evil. For faeries, yes, I’m talking about the tiny people with bug wings specifically. Unlike vampires, I don’t actually have a preference whether they’re portrayed realistically or not. Faeries with magic powers are just as awesome as faeries that are legitimately just tiny people with wings. Runner up answer goes to fish people. Fish people are just great, I love them. Important to note, I’m not talking about mermaids, I’m talking about fish people; Zora, Dagonians, Gills of Hamachi, etc.

 • I haven't heard of Shiki but Vampyr is a game I've been meaning to play for a long time now, I really enjoy choice/consequence games so it's right up my alley!
I also like when Vampires have a more sympathetic light shone on them, nasty pasty Vampires can be cool but I much prefer it when there is a mix between the two, having it as all vamps are bad isn't really my thing.
You might like Pan's Labyrinth there are faeries and other creatures in it. Also The Shape of Water could be a good one for you too - it has a fish man in it! Fish people are cool, I always immediately think of Abe? In Hellboy, kinda preferred that character more than that red demon monkey man! 😂

 • Shiki is an anime, though it’s not very “anime”, so I’d recommend it whether or not you’re actually into the medium. You can usually find it on disc pretty easily, and it’s on iTunes as well. It’s a shame Vampyr got such bad reviews. People didn’t really understand its XP mechanics; they’re supposed to simulate bloodlust, and it worked fabulously, but it sounds like a lot of people didn’t get it from the reviews I saw. They were too upset you can’t go full power fantasy without being an evil person. :p I haven’t heard of any of the other things you mentioned, but I’ll keep them in mind if I’m ever looking for something to watch.

 • I'm very into anime so Shiki should be a good watch for me. And that sucks, I hate it when people rag things when they don't understand it, Journey is a good example of this, I think from memory most people got it but there were a few who just completely trashed it. No guns = what's the point I guess lol
the Xp system in Vampyr actually sounds pretty damn cool though, I haven't looked into it but I definitely will now!
• If you do watch it, let me know what you think! I’ve never heard anyone say anything about Journey, myself. Everyone I’ve seen has called it a masterpiece. Vampyr’s XP system is pretty standard on the surface. Level up to get new perk points & all that. However, killing enemies doesn’t get you too much, so if you rely on that you’ll be a bit underleveled. So, if you’re stuck, you might be willing to get some more XP, and the best way to do that is to drink the blood of civilians, killing them. It seems rather mundane in explanation, but then when you play it, and come across some high level enemies, and come ever so close to eating a civilian to get past, then you’ll understand the pull of bloodlust, very real. Civilians aren’t just mindless NPCs, I should point out; every single one is a fully fleshed out character.

 • I will 👍 Also that's very good, it was a long time ago (around when it was first released) so those reviews have likely been buried. Having NPCs with their own backstory and consequences if killed is one of the things that drew my attention to Vampyr, every meal matters 😂
It's good to know that you don't have to kill any civilians, I always take the good route in choice/consequence games, would be hard if munching on civilians was the only option.
When I finally get around to playing it - I'll be doing a lot of stalking, any bad guys are gonna get in ma belly!

 • I’m actually not sure if they have too big of consequences being killed. I never ate anybody (though I came really, really close), but it didn’t seem like anything too major would happen. Most of them were definitely just side characters, as in depth as they were. But, eating them would make you feel really bad, because of how much you know about them.
This is actually the game’s biggest flaw. I wish it was just a tad bit harder to push you towards eating civilians. It’s not too difficult. It can be pretty tough, though! That’s when I got close!
• I'll probably do a second playthru and go bad, since knowing me - I'll refuse to kill anyone I don't have to. I only ever go bad for trophies and then feel terrible about it. Don't know when I'm going to be playing Vampyr or watching Shiki but I'll let you know what I think about them and whether there's any major consequences for killing civilians... If there's trophies for that.
I've played DarkSouls 3 and Bloodborne so I'm pretty damn stubborn, I'll be able to do it without killing anyone. If there's no trophies for it then unless I stumble across a serial killer (if there are any) I'll be eating no one and that's if eating them is the only way to stop them.
• That was my plan, but I never wound up doing that second playthrough. >.> It’s hard for me to talk about the civilians too much, because learning about them is one of the best parts of the game, but I can say I don’t remember any serial killers. :p It probably wouldn’t have very much wider appeal, but honestly I’d love an entire game just based on the civilian interactions in Vampyr. No main story, or combat, just the tending to your flock stuff. Or at the very least I want a DLC. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll get one thanks to the poor reviews. :(

 • About Vampires. I was playing a very Anime like game called Trails of Cold Steel 3. Within said game there is a Library and within said Library there are a series of books that appear as you continue on with the games chapters. These books turned out to be a piece of Vampire fiction within the game itself. Not saying play the game because it is in there but I enjoyed the story. Here is a wiki with all the books you can find in said game and the story starts with The Red Moon. Though that might just be cumbersome in some way ><'. Just wanted to inform.

 • Neat! I think I’ll pass on reading it, though; seems kind of obnoxious to sift through the wiki like that. :p
