There is no F2P. It’s a free trial and a lie perpetuated by Bungie and apologists to justify heavy micro transactions No other live service game on the planet calls what Destiny calls “F2P” free to play - they call it a free trial No “F2P” game on the planet paywalls content either - because that would be a lie to call it F2P

  • Well is it free to play or not? I’m pretty sure everyone can download the game and play for “free”

  • No you can play the game without paying. And like many other games “DLC” is what is locked out to the free player. This isn’t fortnite where every DLC is just given out for free each season. Fortnite could only do that because of the insane popularity

  • F2P model brought d2 downhills, allowing bungie to monetize way too much from the eververse and giving us paying players basically nothing WHILE also using a “premium dlc/seasonal” model. In Y2 used eververse money to make one of the best missions that we’ve ever gotten, now eververse just brings us nothing, if not more grind to get what it sells.

  • Even before BL still a free trial - just a free trial with more content. XIV gives all content up to the first expansion for free in its trial. F2P can not exist by definition unless the entire game is accessible for free. No F2P game in existence paywalls content without having a free way to unlock that content. Even some of the earliest hybrid models of F2P/B2P/Subscription games out there like LOTRO back in 2009 still provided a means to (eventually) unlock the content for free. It can not be F2P unless all content can be accessed free. To my knowledge the only game out there that calls it’s “trial” F2P is RuneScape and I think that is largely in part due to the fact that game came out nearly 20 years ago and at the time there really wasn’t much disparity between “F2P” and “P2P” and they”ve simply just stuck with the terminology.

  • I mean okay but thing is before beyond light there was a free full raid, 2 free raid dungeons, 3 free campaigns and like at least 30 hours of free content so even if it wasn't true f2p, it was something. Now its just unacceptable as the demo is just around an hour or two of gameplay worth. I myself was a new light back in Shadowkeep and only started to feel content drought after 50 hours in so I bought Forsaken and then Shadowkeep and considering a lot of AAA games now a days have 30-60 hours of gameplay Bungie gave a lot for free back then even if not all of it was interesting but it was still free.

  • The whole point of that free period in d2 was to draw in as many players as possible to the game and then when they removed virtually all the free content a player was either forced to buy all the dlc or not play anymore due to the lack of anything to do in the free portion of the game.

  • Yea makes sense but now what doesn't makes sense is punishing people who have already paid for everything in the form of hackers and predatory monetization. I won't mind the monetization as much if they actually use the money to improve their anti cheat or do what I have suggested and separate paid players from f2p/demo cheaters.
