Auto rifles are awful

PvE or PvP they’re very situational and don’t really hold a candle to other weapons. This goes for all the archetypes.

  • 450s need a lil ickle bump but outside of that, they're fine in PvE for me. Miss my Halfdan tho 😕

  • I honestly wouldn’t mind the auto rifle spam meta again, because right now, I don’t really think it would be that oppressive considering everything else right now.

  • Every archetype of AR could be buffed up varying intensities. And potentially get a small global recoil reduction. - 720s are pretty good, but they're not separated enough from SMGs, I'd add a few extra meters onto them, nothing huge, but I think them having about the same general ranges as a high to maxed out 600 Sub is probably good. - 600s are dependable and good in a vacuum, but aren't quite worth the trade-off from a 140 HC (more recoil, less aim assist, less versatile due to relying on sustained DPS over burst damage, think they've also got less range). I'd bump them to 620 RPM (so the TTK is about 0.78 seconds instead of 0.8), and as a note, Suros wouldn't be touched beyond hip-fire with Dual Speed. - 450s suffer from 2 big things: relying on low Resilience, and being too slow to kill beyond that. I'd have the damage changed to always be that 7 headshot kill. Guarunteeing a 0.8 second TTK with an improved range to compensate. - 360s are the highest range AR type, and they fall into similar stat layouts as a 120 HC. I'd personally just make sure they've got a good range advantage over 450s, so bump the range very slightly. Since 360s are actually really good 35-ish meter suppression/poke weapons. Oh, and because Suros becomes this archetype with Dual Speed, bump the range on it to match a lower range 360. Copy-pasted from a different topic.

        • It wont happen for pvp since the last time they received a buff sweats and streamers -blam!- till they got nerfed again. As for pve yes most definitely they need a buff.

        • Totally agree. For pvp there is no other way to be competitive than using a hand cannon for primary weapons.

          • My Sweet Business has been doing just fine. Even took it into Trials and kicked some butt. The problem is that as soon as they're doing halfway decent, the Hand Cannon Hunter crowd cries Nerf for pages upon pages until Bungie finally gives into the demand. Note: This is not a complaint against all Hunters. Some of my bros out there are pretty chill. It's the hunters who get pissy whenever the meta is anything other than hand cannons. You know who you are.

              • Dude, every gun is awe full right now except hand canons and shotguns. Autos I think would be ok if they would nerf the hit box on hc’s to head only and have severe damage falloff after 30m instead of them 3 tapping at 50m. Autos are still pretty good it’s just with hc’s being so incredibly overwhelming and overpowered right now every other class of weapons seem useless.

                  • I disagree! My summoner melts in either PVE or PVP, and certain 450 archetypes can do quite a bit of damage with certain perks. You just have to find the right gun for the right mode and they work just fine.

                        Just got breakneck from collections again since I deleted mine from sunsetting, and I forget how much I missed it. Even as a sunset 450 auto, it is really fun to use

                          • They should definitely have more viability, and I believe that they should have a similar range to hand cannons (or have a shorter range and allow pulses and scouts to compete, idk), acting as a more forgiving alternative at the cost of a worse TTK, but by a very small margin. My take may not be the best, but I just feel like auto rifles would fit well in a medium-range, low-risk kind of category.

                            They had a brief rein in pvp, but then after(about 5months) got the axe. Adaptives and Rapids clap dat ass in pve, but their roll in pve is to break shields. So this limits them to "armor-piercing rounds" perk. Which then only give the player two options limited to two element sub types. GoS & Trials are not exactly general population friendly, combine this with RNG and limited ability to viably farm......... This answer is highly meta and you can make any thing work in destiny 2 but if we are talking about true optimizatiuon energy weapons combined with heavy weapons strip shields while kinetic weapons will be your output work horses via 10% increased damage. Dont like it? I dont care as thems the breaks scrub, embrace alittle sword logic. But its also the same reason gen pop uses ticuu's over death adder when ever "Hot Knife" & "Overload" is a active modifier. Its easy to obtain, not actually good. The only one that breaks the mold is 7S carbine, which is only because of its WMC generation potential. But again then you are giving up your special slot with the 10% damage boost. Edit, public service announcement for ya all: its worth noting they already nerfed WMC very hard. WMC kills no longer generate ammo bricks(Season of the Hunt stealth nerf), Fireteam Medic only heals the player that pop'd the WMC and no longer the rest of the fireteam(Season of the Chosen Stealth Nerf))

                            • Nah 600s are still top tier. They're just not used much in PVE because they're not anti-barrier this season.

Not that not playing your own game for 6 years would have anything to do with that, but what do I know right? If I remember correctly, one of the first nerfs in D1 y1 was Auto rifles, and since that day Bungie went on a rampage of nerfing everything in the game and a few things multiple times destroying weapons and other things in the game pushing their agenda, [b](but calling it "balancing the entire game by saying we want weapons to feel the same across the entire board".)[/b] Whatever that means because this game nor D1 has ever come close to being balanced, and the weapons literally do not feel or work the same across the entire board. Gee, is it because they are literally not supposed to work the same across the entire board knowing there are 2 different aspects of the game? [b]This flawed logic is why D2 base game was a huge flop that Bungie almost lost the entire player base. They thought they could balance PvE as the same as PVP and destroyed what Destiny was about and they are still working off the base game.[/b] They said they weren't going to do what they did in D1 and that is literally pushing their agenda but it's exactly what they have been doing since Forsaken. I get things to need to adjusted, things need to change up but to treat one aspect of the game as the same as the other is the most asinine thing I have seen any company do because making the same adjustments or making adjustments [b](to please only 1% of the player base is just wrong and it will always affect the other.)[/b] It's been 6 years, they need to wake the hell up and realize what they are actually doing to this game is wrong, or at least somone give them a swift kick in the ass and show them how to at least try to get their act together.

                              • Autos need to be condensed like they did with Handcannons (oddly enough they took out 150s because they made all others useless and now we have 120s that essentially do the exact same thing but🤷) I just feel some of these weapons have too many archtypes and most of them are redundant. We have the 360s We have the 450s We have the 600s We have the 720s The 360s are literally just full auto scout rifles with none of the range benefits The 450s are the middle of the road, meh but useable The 600s are the go to option for most everything in which you'd like to use an auto rifle for The 720s are just SMGs with more range.
