How to move forward from sunsetting weapons

Make it so that you are able to slot in weapon perks into your weapons the way you can with armor perks. This will let guardians get the perks they want on the weapons they want eventually and by that I mean that in order to unlock new weapon perks for the gun that you have, you will still need to get a random world drop of that gun that has that perk but the perk unlocks on the weapon drop with the perk or dismantle of the weapon. Every season if new perks get introduced via new weapon rolls of the gun then you would just have to grind the gun until the new perk drops with the weapon drop or they could also introduce artifact mods with weapon perks mods that they can use to experiment with weapon perks of they want that will only be available that season. The reason this would be a good system moving forward is because if Bungie needs to tune a weapon perk down, they can reduce the effectiveness of the perk individually or get disable the perk all together if it's too OP and the gun can still be usable just slot in a different perk if that happens. Each gun will still retain its own loot pool (you wont be able to get raid perks like reconstruction on non raid weapons) but after enough drops you will eventually get the weapon you are chasing. You are building towards a weapon while not entirely at the mercy or RNG. And maybe after a few seasons bungie can introduce new weapon perks into the loot pool for the weapons you like. Masterworks can stay as is, each weapon will still drop with a random masterwork. But since you can now slot in perks that you have unlocked on weapons you can experiment with different masterworks and see which one helps you more without having to worry about also seeing if the perks are good. Range MW on a weapon, see if the stability MW feels better with the same perks! Got a reload MW? play around with it and see if it suits you better than a range MW. Slotting in new perks will cost some type of currency, maybe depending on glimmer, enhancement cores, and location currency based on where the gun is farmed. Of course I'm not demanding this type of system, i just thing that this would be a good way of creating a connection with a gun you love. But then again, i am just a random person on the internet so what do I know.

  • I don't think this is a good idea. The only way to get newer perks should be through using the new weapons themselves. With sunsetting gone, reissues are now not needed and the focus can be on newer weapons to some degree. Be glad your recently acquired gear can now be used indefinitely. The only thing would result in your suggestion would be players holding onto their weapons indefinitely, grinding for new weapons just to essentially infuse their perks. This philosophy is anti-looter shooter to me. You should see newer perks and want to use the new guns because of what they offer that your old weapons do not offer.
