Sunsetting: The Real Problem | An Open Letter to Bungie

What I've discovered about Sunsetting is that it's not the lack of content so much as how stingy Bungie continues to be with the loot that seems to be driving all the frustration. Don't get me wrong, there is not enough content that was added to replace what we lost. All those iconic weapons, some of the best loot in the game (Black Armory, I'm looking at you), all of it gone and we're left with what? Well, some fairly solid contenders. Problem is, getting them is as difficult as it was pre-sunsetting. Which is kind of a problem. No one wants to spend months and months on end chasing loot if they know they're going to get 6 months maximum life out of it and then they gotta trash it. This whole issue wouldn't have been such a nightmarish hellscape of outrage had you shown some -blam!-ing respect to your customer base. Look, Bungie. I'm going to be real with you, here. I know the holy trinity of business. Time, Quality, Budget. You know, those three things you gotta balance to make certain your bank account stays healthy. Well, something you may not realise is, those three things map to the people who pay your salary. The amount of time and the relative difficulty and cost associated with any piece of loot in this game needs to be balanced by its quality. If I'm going to have to spend 40 hours grinding a nightfall for a single piece of gear, that piece of gear had better be worth it. And right now, what sunsetting has done, is hacked off about 50-60% of that quality finish on everything you're doing. Nobody wants to spend as much time as they spent chasing a Mindbender's Ambition on chasing a xenoclast. Doesn't matter how good that shotgun may or may not be, it's just not worth the investment anymore. Drop rates, RNG, and and overall oppressive nature of miserly stinginess on your part has effectively backfired in exactly the way I predicted it would. The reason people don't want grind or farm guns and gear anymore is because they're not valuable enough to warrant the effort and expenditure required to do so. Make it rain, Bungie. Increase loot drops, fix your busted RNG, and for -blam!-'s sake, put some bad blood protection into two areas of the game broken beyond all reason: the Lost Sectors (drop rates are abysmal and favour the worst of the worst exotics over the seasonal exotics which drop exclusively from them) and pinnacle powerfuls (bad blood protection has been needed desperately ever since this came along. I would not wish upon my worst enemy that they should receive 95% of their pinnacles on one class in boots for 6 straight weeks.) Or, to put it more simply, the quality and quantity of the loot is not worth the time and the effort it takes to chase it. We're playing the same Destiny, but we're getting a third of what we were before. And looking at the numbers, there's nothing to get excited about here. Everything is farther away, harder to get, and less worthwhile than it was before. Our time is valuable, and what we are telling you over and over and over again that you are not listening to, is that this broken, frustrating, confusing, and often tilting experience lacks a meaningful enough reward at the end to make us feel as though our time was well spent.

You really gonna waste all time to finally get a semi god roll and then it’s retired. Lol I’m not sure how you guys still play I get habit and just need to not think and let muscle memory take control but come on lol. Game market as a whole is declining but other and or more games out there willing to reward your time

    • An open letter to my team: I have just recently found out that Taniks has no House. He kneels before no banner, owes allegiance to no Kell. He is a murderer, and very good at what he does. I have been tracking him since Wolves broke their chains, yes? Now Taniks works for Wolf Pack, but not for long

    • The loot we have has been accumulated over years now, so it’s hard to regrind for the same loot in a couple months, because otherwise it will also be sunset

    • Actually, I’d go so far as to say the quality of ALL loot (maybe exotics but even those get killed somehow, Ex. Ruinous Effigy) is is now non existent. We’re chasing upgrade mats, expiration dates, and activity entry numbers. 🤷‍♂️ Well... I was. Haven’t been lately. Why bother. I’ll pop in for story mission but otherwise? I’m just not feeling it. I want to love this game but I feel like for every one thing that gets fixed or better, four more pop up to ruin it. For the 50 reasons I love it, there’s 100 why I don’t. But that’s subjective. I don’t care to spend time, effort, aggravation, and slogging through stale content (I swear if they add champions to “spice things up” and restrict engagement agency further, I’m just done) to grind for a godroll that’s going to be gone or “reissued” in the time it took to get it in the first place. I’m almost absolutely apathetic at this point for any changes they announce that don’t involve reversing sunsetting, bringing old gear to current (minus the outliers that started this mess), removing champions and their mod restrictions that destroy player agency with regards to approaching engagements, or... I don’t even know what else to list. I’m just tired of having to do this every year for whatever reason just after things started going well. Tired and apathetic. I pop in for news on story drops or changes hoping for the best. But I keep getting disappointed. Just giving my $.02 right now but this could mean my few hundred dollars not being given later. Their game, they make the calls, they can take my opinions as they wish, but as we saw 5 weeks into Vanilla D2, apathy breeds exodus. 🤷‍♂️

      • sunsetting is just another form of FOMO, which they said, they would remove from the game. but instead they FOMO'ed half the game and everyones loot.. guess its a "you had to be there moment" like they said.

      • You don’t want to play Destiny as a loot game. Because not loot game lets you drag loot through the game forever. Bungie is committed to Destiny being a fully functional loot game, and Sunsetting is foundational to every loot game. So we have an irreconcilable difference.

        • I wouldn't mind regrind again if they reissue all weapons/armor at one, static or no static perks, if they would get rid of this sunsetting cr ap. 16-16 guarantee armor stats..man come on i have 22-23 on two piece of armor that will soon gonna expire. Grinding my ...off and keep going for better stats. Not now i dont .. all that lost time will mean nothing in short time. Now ill play only for exoctics, from time to time, witch you should do until they will put a lvl cap on them to.
