I'm a big fan of Nomad but he completely ignored the psychological component/mentality that goes hand in hand with PvP.
Destiny has no idea what it wants to be and whom to cater to. Power fantasy/entitlement vs skill is the main problem.
Destiny/Bungie created a player mentality: "Participate and get rewarded". NOT - "overcome a challenge, invest time to get better at the game, and then be rewarded". So of course people won't enjoy getting their butt handed to them once they go into the Crucible.
No matter how you spin it people won't enjoy the reality check. Not everybody enjoys having to improve in a video game. To most, it's just a casual experience. I truly think that the moment Bungie commits and reveals a true vision everything will get better - but that won't happen with its current management.
Not everybody enjoys having to improve in a video game. To most, it's just a casual experience.
This is very true. Not everyone is interested in becoming a Crucible god and don't enjoy being OHK'd by a boss. Some people just want to relax and have a good time. They should be allowed to do so. That's why many games have varying difficulty settings, BUNGIE!!!! Let's face it, the Crucible is not a friendly place, especially for beginners. There's nowhere for them to go. Every play list is a sweat fest.

No place with player vs player interactions are friendly places. Especially if "killing" is involved. It never was and never will be.

Patrol. Normal Strikes. Work up from there.

The thing is there's nothing wrong with either approach to the game. The reason we play games is to have fun. Either to go and challenge yourself and get sweaty or to sit back and take on hordes of enemies. The only way I can see fixing it is moving the vanguard gambit and crucible powerful/pinnacle rewards to a shared pool where you can only get whatever amount per week. That way players only have to interact with parts of the game they choose. Also just realized my response has nothing to do with matchmaking but whatever.

Sort of like the quest for Adored and its ornaments. That's why Iron Banner bounties need to be fixed so that the Pinnacles are more accessible to all players. I know the point of them is for PvP main players who don't want to run things like the raid, but the reality is that most PvP players already have done everything PvE related to increase their light level so that they can play Trials and Iron Banner.
So of course people won't enjoy getting their butt handed to them once they go into the Crucible.
One of the reasons I find Mayhem so much fun is that although I still die a lot, I get a lot more kills, too. I think players wouldn't even mind getting mercied, if they still got a bunch of kills. It would be like losing a basketball game 150-80. Sure, it wasn't even close, but you still managed to get 80 points. And, in PvP, getting those "points" (kills) is what progresses bounties and quests. So, it doesn't really matter if somebody else can complete the quest in half the time you do, as long as you can complete it in a reasonable time.

Wonderfully said! And it'll never figure who it wants to cater to either! That's the punchline!
