“Hm. Well it didn’t say applicants had to be particularly magical.....” Blaze follows the directions.

After descending a few flights of stairs and following several signs, you arrive at the active labs. Fortunately, only one is in use, and a sign above the heavy set door to the lab reads ‘Dr Clay’.
-
Blaze knocks on it. “Hello?”
-
A voice calls out from inside. "Oh, come in! it should be unlocked."
-
“Oh!” Blaze opens the door and walks inside.
-
You enter a massive square test room, with a high vaulted ceiling and smooth, tiled floors. The walls are thick and sturdy like the front door, but appear unblemished despite the strenuous testing. Along the sides of the room are numerous tables strewn with instruments of all shapes and sizes, each brightly lit by floating tongues of flame. In the center of the room is a large circle on the floor, suspending a massive obsidian sphere in the center. Clay stands before it, checking several notebooks, constantly glancing between it and the sphere, and doesn’t seem to have noticed your entrance. At one of the tables on the right sits a young girl, sketching and doodling in what appears to be an important tome.
-
“Oh hey! You’re that guy!” Blaze says. “So, what do you need help with?”
-
"Yes, it's me again. Currently working on something for the countess, a generator that channels power directly from the elemental planes. However," Clay turns to you, looking up from his books. "Some entities of the planes will likely come through, which is where your protection is required. I'll be busy stabilizing the reaction, so it will be up to you to fight them off."
-
Blaze nods. “Alright, sounds fun! And uh....” Blaze points to the girl. “She is here because.....?”
-
"You already have one on your hands, I thought I'd keep her safe while I search for the last few." Clay turns around and walks back to the sphere. The girl continues to doodle, humming quietly to herself.
-
“Ah, alright.” Blaze readies his claws.
-
"Are you ready?" Clay arranges the four books at his feet so he can read them all.
-
Blaze nods. “Yup!”
-
"Very well." Clay begins the incantation, and a deep hum begins to reverberate form the obsidian sphere. Four portals: red, blue, brown and grey, open around and begin to pulsate with energy.
-
Blaze watches them all.
-
And this is where the fun begins
Out from the grey portal comes a small tornado, and from the blue, a moderately sized water elemental!
-
Blaze throws lightning at it.
-
Which one?
-
Oh whoops, thought the water one was the only one
Blaze throws a lightning bolt at the water one
-
Riiiip my bad. I should describe 'em better
The water elemental staggers back under your blow, but the air fellow blasts you with a jet of cold air!
-
Blaze tries to dodge. “Hey uh.....how do I kill wind?!”
-
You successfully dodge the attack, the wind blowing papers and items off a nearby desk behind you. Clay manages to answer despite the concentration needed to keep up the ritual. "Blast it or cut it with a magic weapon, it's more physical than it looks!" The elemental takes this time to blast you with another jet of air!
-
Blaze tries to hop over, and tries shooting at it. “Oh yeah, let me just pull a massive magic sword out of my pocket!”
-
Clay doesn't answer, concentrating on keeping the portals open. The jet hits you, knocking you back several feet. You do land two shots, and the elemental appears to be weakened.
-
Blaze keeps shooting.
-
You fire away, and the air elemental disappears as it dies. Two more portals begin to glow as more figures approach!
