Expiration Date on Weapons Kills Motivation to get them

Bungie you see the out cry from the community about this issue. Its like the time when the community asked you to remove enhancement cores from infusion and you refused your runing the player experience putting time gates on weapons and arnor the game is fun when your not forcing sunsetting and you make better weapons that players want

Yeah i agree, ive just gotten back into destiny and i was looking forward to grinding out all older content but ive just done the things that appeal to me and will stick with me in casual PvP, same goes for anything else. I'll still play BL (Thanks to gamepass ultimate) and old content that sticks around after BL, i just dont think id be enticed to grinding out weapons that will ultimately be made redundant in PvE within a year. Luckily we'd still be able to use the weapons in crucible so my gameplan is pretty much exotics and PvP weapons i like the feel of in the crucible and can stay with me even after LL cap has been reached on them.

      • Not all of us are against it . You know they should have just removed all the old stuff from the game and been done with it . Cause what is the point of them explaining it when some clearly do not want to or are not smart enough to understand their reason. I am in favor of removing all the old garbage

          • Not having an expiration date kills the motivation to get new guns as well. A catch 22 if you look at it from both sides of the fence.

            • I dunno man. Having at least an entire year to get satisfaction out of a gun seems like plenty enough for me.

As I have said in other posts like this one here. Sure it sucks, losing a weapon that you've come to love over the past year or so but in order for new weapons to shine, old weapons need to go otherwise powercreep becomes a problem. It is the basis of an MMO, always ever evolving. To tell a short story: Back when I was raiding MC and BWL, never got to do Naxx unfortunately (Damn you Vaelastraz!) I remember having a convo with some guildies over Ventrilo and coming to the realization that the all tier gear that I earned over the past year, T1 and T2 (oooh that Netherwind set) would become obsolete. They pretty much responded with a simple "yep!" and we just kept playing PvP or doing dungeons/raids. So to sum it up, this is the model of an MMO either accept it or not. Sorry bud = /

                • It also removes any incentive to upgrade weapons and armor. There's no point in putting materials into stuff that has an expiration date, which removes any reason to get the materials, which means there's no reason to play activities to get the materials. And if there's no reason to play the activities, then there's no reason to even play the game.

                  • Weapons always had an expiration date. Before it was Destiny 3 and now it is sunsetting. The only thing that changed is that we now know when it is.

                  • You know the biggest irony in sunsetting? The biggest D2 streamer who was cheering up and pushing sunsetting, got sunsetted on twitch lol.

                    • Don’t worry this is what they do, they piss ppl off with a dumb ass change and then when numbers go down they just change it back and say look we listened. I’m sure their goal here is to get rid of pinnacles, once their gone they’ll use no more sunsets to sell us next yrs expansion.

                      • This entire time I’ve been waiting for beyond light I’ve either been playing crucible and getting annoyed at this shit sandbox then getting off or not even playing in the first place. usually before every dlc I would spend the last like 5-6 weeks preparing and grinding weapons and armor for the dlc (like 8-16 hours play sessions daily) but here I am with no motivation to do so because I know it will all one day be useless.

                      • The biggest motivation killer isn't the expiration dates but the lack of an incentive to grind the reissued ones. It's a disservice to retire an old weapon just to make an exact carbon copy with the only difference being a higher light cap.

                      • Yes, it does. Sunsetting will make many take the game a whole lot less serious and play less. Beat endgame with bare minimum needed. Its great for those who dont play endgame. They have little to lose.

                        • Don't mind sunsetting as long as there is a way to get loot we want in a good amount of time. For those that have the best luck in this game they'll have their god rolls in no time. For the rest of us it could take up the entire time in the sun to get the loot we want. I think bungie should bring more activities like menagerie with 2 to 3 times the drops. If I'm guaranteed that a weapon will drop I'll continue to grind until the right roll drops.

                        • Not really. I buy a concert ticket knowing that it'll be finished in a couple of hours. I open a bottle of wine knowing it'll be empty after dinner. I look in the mirror knowing I'm one day older and one day nearer my expiration date. Not having access to the ability to upgrade some pixels after a year isn't a worry.

                          • Why do I get a sense of dejavu? Like they are going to sunset and then go. Oh we are releasing all your favorites back so get grinding and don't worry. They won't be sunset as that was a bad idea by us. It'll be maxxed out until we take d2 down.

It kills motivation for some of it for me but not all of it - for me. I know now I don't need to bother getting that perfect roll except for my very favorite weapons. That's why I got myself a couple really nice gnawing hungers, cold denials...and that's about it this season. Comparing this to how I treated last season, I'm much less stressed about the season's weapons, able to focus on content I haven't seen, etc. I don't mind this at all.
