Beyond Light Sunsetting, Price Tags, Free Destiny 2, and Veterans

Sunsetting is the removal of previous content, most of which was payed for, and might be reinstated later on again. Why? Why is sunsetting necessary? Not only that, but Beyond Light is a crisp $49.99 USD plus tax. In this, I will argue against the sunsetting and pricing, and veterans paying, and veteran against new player prices. Sunsetting is a bad move, one multiplied by the factor of just how much people have payed for this game, and how much is being removed. This includes the removal of raids, areas, weapons, armor, etc. Essentially we pay $50 for new content that will replace the old. New content is good, always will be, but shouldn't have the compromise of not being able to play what existed before. Pricing is also a big part, one more so on the choices of Bungie. Now, the question of veterans arrises. Why are they important? Pricing. In the beginning, this game was a full $59.99 + tax with the dlcs. These dlcs were $19.99 for Curse of Osiris and Warmind, and the $39.99 Forsaken to follow. Veterans had, and I mean had to pay for all of this stay with the game, around $120 + (it may vary depending on specific sales and such for all I list) no exceptions. Forsaken was purchased locked by the previous two dlcs.. Now, this a long time ago, years even, but It still has an impact. The Forsaken annual pass was $35, Shadowkeep $35, and the new Beyond Light spiking to $50 (Not to mention deluxe editions). So, we had $120 + with the added $120 + of these other dlcs. Why do these prices get so high for veterans? New players. Destiny 2 was made free for the new marketing strategy that began with Shadowkeep. Making it more cost effective to said new lights and promoting marketing. Good move, not for the old lights. Due to the free game, tge dlcs have to be made larger in price to make money, I get that. But why does it have to be so big for the oldies? For some it may not matter, price is just a quest step to the new stuff. But for many, I have no doubt this is taxing to the wallet. The benefits do not outweigh the sacrifice, especially with the aforementioned problems. In conclusion, to get to the point, veterans have payed a lot, played a lot, and are tired of having to spend more. It's even worse when we know all the stuff we worked for, all the stuff we may want to get or play again, will be wiped from existence. Does that sound appetising? Not really. I understand money needs to be made, people will always need to be payed. But why don't we, the old players, the ones who have been here from the beginning, get some sort of benefit for this? It is more than fair to get some reacharound. Not only that, but to stop doing what you're doing with sunsetting. I say we old lights get some payback for our dedication. Thank you for your time, your beautiful games, and the experiences, Bungie. Please consider what I have said.

  • If you're still running the old content they're removing, it's either because you're stupidly obsessed with it (i saw a dude in tower the other day with SIX. THOUSAND. CLEARS. On spire of stars. And he had his emblem tracking it. Disgusting.), still don't have everything you want from it (only really applies to the new and the extremely unlucky), or you are just helping new players (in which case you don't NEED it anymore). In all cases, one rule applies: you are playing old, outdated content that the majority of players aren't. It's not going to kill the game to get rid of the old crap, most people either aren't running it or have no real reason to run it. It won't matter. Sunsetting happened in D1, and it turned out to be EXACTLY what the game needed. "But muh weapons! Muh armor! I put so much effort in to getting them!" So do something else with your life. Jesus. It's a video game. Nothing matters in it. Nothing is permanent in it. When you play something like Breath of the Wild or Dark Souls, do you exclusively run the stuff you start the game with? No. Unless you're doing a challenge run, you are ALWAYS investing in new tools. Upgrading, changing gear, etc. Why should Destiny be any different? Change is good, because it prevents stagnation. D1 had sunsetting and it went great. D2 will be no different. So you put like, $240 into the game. And? You're not entitled to anything other than what you paid for, and you paid for a Bungie game. What that means is this: you get a Bungie game. It's not YOUR game. You didn't create it, so you get no say in its future. And before you say "if we paid, we're entitled to sway the future of the game", tell me how many other games do that. Dark Souls never did. No legend of zelda game has. None of the infamous or uncharted games, or any need for speed or mortal kombat games. VERY VERY VERY few games allow their players to decide their future, and even when they do it's very small decisions like "what theme should the next dlc follow", not "what will be included in the next dlc". Or it'll be "what kind of extra cosmetics do you want to see?", not "design some cosmetics and we'll put them in!". Why should d2 be any different? So you paid. Big deal. You're not entitled to change things the way Bungie shareholders are, and you aren't entitled to tell bungie what to do or how to do it. Bungie is a multi-million or billion dollar company, run by very wealthy individuals and managed by people who can buy and sell you, your house, your land, and your family at a hundred times their net worth without feeling a financial DENT, while you're just some man, woman, child, manchild, womanchild, or old codger that thinks you're entitled to the same benefits as shareholders and directors all because you spent $240 on them over the course of like 3 years. You're a teeny, tiny little individual PIXEL on their bottom line. Stop acting like they owe you anything beyond the game you're playing. And a reward for dedication? Seriously? Do you realize how entitled and spoiled that sounds? "I've played this game soooo much, so when you get rid of everything, be sure to give ME, and players like ME, something extra that new players can't get, because we play a lot". How about just... playing the game as a GAME and not taking it so seriously? Are you a child? Do you not have a job? A life outside the game? Cause that's what it sounds like. The level of entitlement in this sounds extremely juvenile. God, why are so many of you so damn spoiled?
