Banned cheater only lost account for three days and now is back playing

Played someone in Trials on PC. Submitted video of person infinite respawning at the end of the game. (Would say their name and post the video but that would be a violation of CoC.) Two days later, notification that someone I reported got banned. (I assume it's the same person since I've only ever submitted one cheater report via the official Bungie cheater form.) Person got banned and now three days later is back playing, stomping on everyone. The person runs a lot of Trials games every weekend and is ruining tons of other peoples' experience. Bungie finds out, slap on the wrist, cheater is back in crucible doing the same junk. It's so discouraging and disappointing. I know it's on me for not accepting this sooner, but Bungie clearly doesn't care about keeping cheaters out of this game. Bungie in many ways does not seem to care about the collective Guardian experience in Crucible. There is no anticheat. It's on the community to police each other, which has gotten really bad in terms of all of us accusing or suspecting each other of cheating. All the while, like, where is Bungie in this? Writing posts on t-bagging? Reskinning guns they're sunsetting so we can regrind for basically the same weapon in two months? There's so much I think they get right and so much fun to be had. But this is super demoralizing for wanting to play. It's one thing for cheating to run rampant; that does suck but it's helpful to know there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, something might be being done to stop it. It's full on another thing, and an even worse thing to me. to acknowledge the cheating, see the cheater and affirm the cheating, and then allow it to continue with knowing the rest of us think it sucks and are being driven from the game, or at least aspects of it. Guardians are leaving this game and cheaters are rewarded with a sandbox in which to thrive and continue to have a negative, toxic influence. I just don't get it... So, anyway, rant over. Hope y'all are doing well, staying safe, and finding ways to have fun in Destiny or whatever you are playing these days.

  • That's the problem with soft bans (account only) in games, especially ftp ones. One account gets banned there's always going to be another on standby. Bungie has given up on doing anything about it. What they should do is report these cheaters to the company of whatever platform the player is on.

I will never understand why in every one of these posts complaining about cheating, Bungie gets sole blame for not being able to stop it yet the scumbags who are actually cheating get a pass. And this is a PC issue. Yall need to sort yourselves out because it's not a good look.

    • You think bungie cares about cheaters? The integrity of this company is as thin as the toilet paper I wipe my ass with.

    • Cheaters in Destiny are Bungie's promotion engine. Only think about all that Sherpa's and account recovery advertisement.

It is toxic as hell already on console in trials ... The last few weeks sees lowest numbers in Trials ...now on top these hardcore sweats are being extremely toxic / griefing towards the weaker opponents ... not only are they constantly farming the card for token on these weaker players their behaviour in game is toxic as well .. Bungie created this toxic environment by removing SBMM , now the sweats think they are entitled to ruin others game experiences by the stomping and griefing plus other issues no one can mention..

        • I'll bet that they buy a lot of stuff on Eververse so Bungie doesn't care if they cheat.

        • You know, free to play and peer to peer should be (and is) a dead giveaway for everyone but Bungie... F2P + P2P = Bungie: $$$ > the product > the player experience...

        • Bungie should do what CoD did was mandate a cellphone tied to the persons account, so if they are caught cheating then that account is banned, and requires the player to register a new number, which would require them to contact their providers, also banning internet based phone numbers like Google Phone.

              • I would pay extra monthly for a good anti cheat system.... I know tons of people that would do the same. A good amount of people I play with said they'd pay 100$ an expansion if it included a year long anti cheat. I'd pay extra for dedicated servers to.

Bungie's too desperate to maintain their dwindling active player count. They'll stick their fingers in their ears like they do about every other community issue that they've determined to not affect their bottom line.

                  • This is messed up. I got banned even though I wasn't cheating. I had a mod tool open for a different game before switching to d2. Thing is I didn't even get passed the character login screen when the game crashed. Then when I tried logging back in boom got hit with a account ban even though I didn't so anything to mod the d2 game itself. currently still waiting to see bungie sees my appeal to undo my ban. I wasn't trying to cheat in d2. My game history / skill is average at best. I've spent alot of time and money on this game, and being banned for a unknown reason sucks. I'm only guessing this is why I got I got banned, unsure if this is even the reason why. Not knowing why or the status of appeal literally is killing me on the inside. It was a mistake and I get that, even for having the mod tool on my pc that's not for destiny but a offline single player game is bannable offense sucks and messed up. I already removed the tool from my pc but I guess it's too late. It's messed up though that people who didn't actually cheat get banned, yet real cheaters are all over YouTube running free and come back days later. To finish I get it I broke the TOS but being banned for having a tool that's for another game and not hurting or even modified the d2 game itself is messed up

                    • Honestly the move to free to play was a mistake. I'm willing to bet money that if the game was free to play we wouldn't see as many cheaters on pc.

Its a money problem. The community was told that if it meant "keeping trials a sacred place" they would pay wall it. We are approaching new light, with out this promise held. Why? Well it would hurt them, the rabbit hole that is account recoveries and cheating is deep. To the extent that locking this player base out behind wall is not financially sound. The best they can do right now is what they have been. Drum up covid problems with social unrest constraints and ignore the problem till they become more financially stable. Thats the problem though they have been living by the " benefit of the doubt" "good faith" "and world problems" for to long. I hope the mantra many of them likely tell them selves over at bungie "I hope we succeed" comes true for New Light.
