Pretty easy Weekend Poll! Is it a rarity to not listen to podcasts these days? If you don't why not? What do you find unappealing? If you do, what do you specifically like about them? What are some of your favorites? And if you've created one before would you mind sharing it? And did you enjoy the process? Have a great weekend, cheers!

  • There's a group of YouTubers/streamers that I watch who used to have a podcast where they just talked about various topics, some of which the viewers asked. I liked listening to them because I saw it as more content from some people whose content I already enjoyed. But they seemed to lose interest in doing them so they stopped. I haven't watched any others.

      • Hi! I do listen to podcasts. I like that they are generally conversational and entertaining. I transitioned to podcasting from radio after my life schedule flip-flopped so many times that I couldn't keep up regular listening to my favorite talk shows. so now I listen to podcasts. I also think a job in radio would be one of the coolest things. So I started my own news (there is a difference between a news and a politics podcast) podcast, however, I found it difficult to create content regularly because I am so young that I do not have the knowledge base it required to keep up, nor did I have time to do enough research to make it happen. I also found that if I listened to any sort of commentator that my style would become highly derivative of them. in short, I didn't want to mislead anyone and I didn't want to be a cheap knock off of my favorite shows. So I stopped producing content for a long time. Recently it occurred to me that I could do an interview show and that would be fun. so now I am doing interviews. here is a link to my podcast and YouTube version

Podcasts I recommend: Scene on Radio - political podcast. Slow Burn - great political history podcast - first season was about the watergate scandal. Second season was about the Bill Clinton impeachment. The Daily - NYT podcast covering current events and news. S-Town - kind of a true crime human interest documentary podcast following an eccentric guy in a small town. Kotaku splitscreen - Gaming podcast. In our Time - BBC podcast covering different subjects from science, philosophy, history etc. Atlanta Monster - true crime podcast following the Atlanta serial killings during the late seventies.

              • Not really, no. I don't really see the attraction, honestly, other than every text based news site has committed suicide via a UI so cluttered with ads and popups as to be unusable. Text lets you go at your own pace, avoids accents, mumbling, laughing or talking over one another, and can easily be skimmed for the details you're interested in.

I enjoy political podcasts like the Ben Shapiro show, and the Dan Bongino show.
Is it a rarity to not listen to podcasts these days?
I'd say so.
If you do, what do you specifically like about them? What are some of your favorites?
I like hearing people's opinions, points of view, and takes on certain things. I typically listen to the H. P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast and occasionally Joe Rogan. I'd say TEDTalk but not sure if that really counts as a podcast.
And if you've created one before would you mind sharing it? And did you enjoy the process?
We've only done one episode and still working on audio bugs (along with video/streaming issues). Had a lot of fun though. Maybe I'll share once we get some of the kinks out.

                    • I listen to podcasts to learn stuff. How Stuff Works is a good one as they focus on a specific subject at a time, ranging from history to science to how to train your dog. The Dark Horse podcast is another goto for me. It’s a topical podcast of the world seen through the lens of an evolutionary biologist. Honorable mentions: Waking up with Sam Harris, the Preston and Steve show
