Here’s my argument on it:
Most people in D1 ran fairly straightforward builds, for example if you had invis on a bladedancer, more than less likely you went full into it. Sunspots on a titan? Put on the sunspot perks. Sunsinger? Typically self res. I am an advocate for the nodes because it just saves me the trouble of having to select the perks that synergize well with each other individually.
Here’s my question:
For those who select customization, why? I understand the “play my way” argument, but is that really it?

Being able to customize allows for just a tad more player freedom. For instance, being able to use Nova Warp with Devour tree, or maybe you want Shoulder Charge on Missile tree for... reasons, I dunno. There's also things like Phoenix Dive being absolutely terrible compared to Icarus Dash, so you obviously want the latter with the bottom tree super if possible. From a development standpoint I do understand why they go that route. Nodes are easier to balance. The problem is we aren't seeing enough of that balancing to justify it.

still not sure why the original game had this and the sequel didnt

If they can make it so that all the subclass perks are viable, and synergize well no matter what combination you use, then I'd take the D1 subclass layout.

I can appreciate votes but I’d love discussion.
