Iron Banner needs some changes. We have an idea.

This season has just felt terrible when it comes to the 6v6 crucible game modes. My clan did 2 separate experiments (one in quick play control, the other in Iron Banner), we played 10 games and counted how many ended via the mercy rule. In normal quick play, 6 of our 10 games ended via mercy (our team won 3 and lost 3). Average time of a game was 5 minutes 39 seconds. This got even worse when we went into Iron Banner. 8 of 10 games end via mercy (we only won 2 of those). The average time of an iron banner game? 2 minutes 42 seconds. Now, I think there are obvious problems with quick play control (mostly stemming from the change to connection based matchmaking over skill based) but Iron Banner is supposed to be end game content. The bounties reward 4 pinnacle drops. I just think it’s crazy that Iron Banner matches are quicker than quick play control games. It’s a lot easier to roll the enemy team (or get rolled on) and that’s a huge problem (in my opinion). It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to have a smaller point limit, with a shorter mercy standard, in a game mode that has a lockout feature on the control zones. I guess I’m just curious to know how many people actually enjoy playing a 3 minute game then go back to rematch-making? Don’t get me wrong, I love Destiny and crucibles and Iron Banner but I feel like I spend more time in orbit finding a game than the actual game plays. And even when I’m on the team the stomps the enemy, I have a hard time having fun or enjoying the win. So I got with some members of my clan yesterday and we discussed ideas for how Iron Banner could be changed to make it better. The consensus we came to was changing the game mode from Iron Banner Control to Iron Banner Zone Control. Zone Control was a game mode in Destiny 1 that rewarded points based on: number of zones controlled, and the amount of time a team held zones. The point system was based on kills, and that made Zone Control (in our opinions) a more enjoyable mode. We thought of how it could work in Iron Banner and this is what we came up with: The game would have a 10 minute tome limit. The score to reach is 200 points. Every 2 seconds, each team earns 1 point for every zone they control. The mercy rule is applied when one team reaches 90 points before the other reaches 30. When a team captures all 3 zones, a lockout is applied for 10 seconds (this is the same as it is now). The lockout is renamed “The Hunt”; during these 10 seconds is the only time kills count for points. Each kill is worth 3 points. Respawn time is 3 seconds, except during The Hunt where respawn time is extended to 7 seconds. We feel like these changes would allow games to be played out, promote objective team play, and not overwhelm a team that begins to lose at the beginning of a game. This is just an idea we came up with. In our opinions, it’d be a good change. But we’re just a small clan of guys that have been playing since 2014. We understand what we think would be an improvement may not sit well with other players. So what do you guys think? Is our idea a feasible one? Do you like the current Iron Banner mode? What changes would you make?
