Does your ping shoot up like that only when gaming, or does it do it all the time, and you really only notice it while gaming? Like, if you run that ping test while watching something on Netflix, or whatever, does it do the same thing? Have you contacted your ISP yet, to have them do any connection diagnostics?

  • I have not contacted my ISP yet but i have tested something like watching Youtube I left the ping test on for about an hour and it doesn't spike at all. And something interesting i just checked i have 2 computers I ping tested both of them and left them on minecraft for i would say 10 min. Both had the same ping strike at the same time.

  • Odd. Since it seems you can pretty reliably cause the ping spike to happen, my suggestion would be that you call your ISP and explain what's happening, then have them run their usual tests, and monitor your connection while you have a game running. If they're able to see the ping spike as it happens, they should be able to get an idea of what's causing it. Also, are you running a wired connection, or using wifi? Did this start happening recently, or has it always been that way?

  • Oh and i have a question could this be happening due to my internet plan not being very good itself. Over the past months that my internet became like this i added a couple more devices to my router (or i bought 2 laptops that now use my internet). Hopefully that's not it because buying a better plan or taking off those devices from my router just sucks.

  • It's possible, depending on what all those devices are doing. If they're just sitting there idle, they shouldn't be impacting things too much. What are the download and upload speeds of your plan?

  • With those numbers, you're well above the minimum recommendations for Destiny. I just did a quick search for "arris nvg599 gaming issues" and found quite a few posts on AT&T support forums, where people describe pretty much exactly what you're encountering, so it definitely seems to be an issue with the hardware they use, and how it's configured. There were several posts where people other people suggested disabling IPv6 on the router, with some people reporting at least some improvement. I'd definitely suggest contacting your ISP, as it seems this is an issue they're aware of, and since a lot of the posts I found were a couple years old, they may have more recent advice/solutions to give you.
