I recently returned to Destiny 2 for the first time since completing Forsaken a couple years back. I linked my Battle.net account so I could get my old guardians and DLC. I just wanted to replay the linear Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind campaigns but got quickly confused. After creating a new guardian, I was met with an overwhelming amount of quests saying to learn new stuff and I was thrown into the tower rather than the first mission like it used to be. I figured out that I could redo the campaigns by visiting Holliday but they kinda sucked. It felt like Destiny 2 did everything to ruin my experience reliving the campaigns. It constantly broke immersion by reminding me that I’ve completed the campaigns before, gave me all of the subclasses and paths, and had no level requirements for each mission. I know that some people found the subclass locks and level requirements annoying, but it used to make me feel like I was actually making progress in the game. Now I’ve completed the Red War campaign and begun the Curse of Osiris and my power level has increased by about 20 and I have almost no gear from the entire thing. I looked everywhere for information about changing the old missions but couldn’t find anything. I know how about all of the changes in Shadowkeep like the new armor and power levels but I couldn’t find anything about stuff that would be different to returning players. It feels like I have nothing really interesting to do now. I have no interesting gear, no linear guides for new missions or loot hunting, but an overwhelming amount of quests saying that I need to “discover” these location even though I just spent 5 hours doing. campaigns in them. Is this how the game would be if I were starting from scratch? I think that my real question is, is there a way I can start a game with a new guardian and compete the campaigns as if I were a new player without resetting my account or losing my old, main guardian?
