Why do the foot soldiers of Star Wars not make use of ballistic firearms?

When seriously compared against blasters, ballistic firearms would have an advantage against Jedi in all terms save for logistics. Aside from ammunition, a major draw of blasters is that they are effective against heavily armored opponents, such as Storm Troopers, Droids, and Clones. These armored opponents would typically be mostly immune to bullets, hence the lasers. Almost all Jedi do not wear armor. Many wear light metal plating that is more decorative than practical, and their attire ultimately makes blasters unnecessary. Ballistic weapons take the advantage. Blaster wounds, for one proposed reason or another, are typically portrayed to be far more manageable and easier to deal with than bullet wounds. A bullet wound would most likely inhibit a Jedi’s movement and make their melee combat more difficult. Jedi show an immunity to blasters in their ability to deflect lasers with their own lightsabers. Bullets travel far quicker than Star Wars lasers have been displayed to, and would be extremely difficult to deflect. Additionally, even if a Jedi did somehow reflect a bullet, it would only melt on their saber, meaning they could not use the deflected projectile against the soldier who fired it. Also notable, blaster fire makes a distinct and easily pinpointed sound that gives a clear outline as to its position. Ballistic gunfire is generally so loud and powerful as to make its exact location hard to pinpoint. Do with this information what you will. Lastly, one may argue that, since they carry less total energy, bullets would be far easier to stop with the Force than lasers. I don’t think this is true. From the handful of times we’ve seen lasers stopped with the Force (such as Kylo Ren’s display in the beginning of The Force Awakens), it seems that blocking projectiles with the Force requires a conscious and directed effort against the projectile individually, which would be impossible due to the bullet’s speed. In conclusion, the Empire and all Star Wars antagonists are dumb as shit. They wasted many good foot soldiers to deflected blaster fire using weapons far inferior for the circumstances. With proper positioning, ballistic strike teams could hold near certainty of a confirmed kill against a Jedi. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

  • Mandalorians used slug weapons against the Jedi, worked pretty well from what I heard.

  • Slugthrowers are less helpful against most threats in Star Wars than blasters. The tech is usually outdated at best and painfully archaic at worst. There are some standout slugthrowers, of course, just like everything else, but even then, supplying the munitions and even getting ahold of that kind of weapon is hard to begin with. Much more convenient to go out and buy a blaster, heck even a sporting blaster is probably better than most slugthrowers. And sporting blasters are on the weaker end of the spectrum. As for a slugthrower's utility against Jedi? You're honestly better off trying explosives, gas, or heavy weaponry that can't be easily redirected. Sure, a slugthrower round, if intercepted by the Jedi's lightsaber, will superheat and pelt the Jedi with liquid metal, but that's only going to work on less experienced jedi, or if you're lucky a badly distracted one. And if you don't mind being a terrorist or war criminal, you can just threaten/kill the Jedi's companions/the bystanders in the area that haven't fled/captives. Breaking a Jedi's spirit is as good as killing them, if not better if you're a Sith actively looking to apprentice them. Of course the simplest method is to buy/find an HK line assassin droid and let'er rip. They might not survive the fight depending on which iteration it is, and might pick all of the above at once, with excessively gratuitous collateral damage, but hey. They'll probably get the job done.

    • Because in the Star Wars universe their weapons aren’t strong enough.

    • I don’t think jedi/sith are common enough for that to come up. By A New Hope weren’t they all just treating it like a myth? Now granted, the earlier you go, the more relevant this’d become, but even way back when it would be more common to see the armored enemies that the ballistic weapons wouldn’t affect, wouldn’t it? That’s my guess anyway.

      • In a story, Boba Fett attempted to assassinate Mace Windu as revenge for his father, and used a flechette launcher to good extent, hitting Mace in the shoulders. The fight ended in WIndu's favor when Palpatine intervened. So yeah, a shotgun would work pretty well against a Jedi. against other infantry, standard blasters and explosives would have been suitable.
Hecking Spitfires
• A shotgun loaded with OO buck would pose a serious threat, I would think. Could even a Jedi simultaneously intercept nine lead pellets? And shotties are basically 19th century tech. Imagine what the future version would be like...

        • In Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, the Stormtroopers use balísticos Imperial Repeaters on you, and some type of ballistic shotgun. When you block it, I think your saber just absorbs or annihilates the ammunition, rather than reflect it.

        • https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Tutaminis Well. Time for a lecture. So ballistic weaponry was rather looked down upon in Star Wars. Slugthrowers were mostly used by bounty hunters, and the scum of the galaxy. You wouldn’t find a clone trooper or a stormtrooper dead carrying one. For a Force wielder, a solid projectile was WAY more easy to deflect. If someone shot a slugthrower rifle at me, and I was a force user, I could just force push it right back at where it came from. But a bolt of plasma, is a bit harder. As we see in canon, not many Jedi, or Sith, can deflect a blaster bolt without a lightsaber. Even though Tutaminis is taught at the earliest classes for the Jedi, we only see The Grand Master, and several other Jedi use this ability to the fullest. For the Sith, they didn’t use it as much. They preferred more lethal abilities such as force lightning. As such, I believe Tutaminis was made to be a defensive ability, to be used against force lightning specifically. REASON TWO:A solid projectile for a bounty hunter, was a easy way to find who they were. EXAMPLE:That Damn Saberdart. If Jango Fett hadn’t used the Kaminoan saberdart, and just shot Zam Wessel with a blaster sniper rifle, we wouldn’t have a clone war. Not to mention that a solid projectile just lost velocity as it flew through the air. A blaster bolt was much faster, no matter how aerodynamic the solid projectile was. A blaster bolt just flew through the air until it dissipated. Unless the thing you are firing is a long range turbolaser. Then you can fire it for however long you need to. 😂 Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Actually kinetic weapons WERE used in the Clone Wars by the CIS...and for the reason you mentioned They were effective Jedi Killers, and they were less affected by shield technology. Especially nasty were flechette throwers which were often used in boarding actions because they were less likely to puncture durasteel hulls....and took a very experienced jedi to combat. Because they couldn't be deflected away by a lightsaber like blaster fire could. Which requires the jedi to be focused enough on the attack to be aware of, and account for every flechette being fired at him or her. Even if they were able to ward off the flechette attack the required focus often left them vulnerable to a secondary attack from another source. So inexperienced jedi + element of surprise from an unfamiliar weapon type== dead jedi.
