No response from the Bungie shills or the BDF? Why is that I wonder? Maybe this is because this evidence is the likely explanation for the appalling state the game has been in since the split from Activision? Now I dislike Activision as much as EA, or as much as the next gamer. However the studios they brought with them (VV and HMS) arguably created the best content within the entire lifecycle of D2. Without Activision, Bungie have fallen back on the lamest of content and turned the franchise into a mobile game. If this fall DLC is not the very best content that matches or exceeds the previously and commonly agreed high points of the franchise (Forsaken and TTK), then this is going to be the end of Destiny as a franchise. Will Destiny die? No, I really don’t think that is possible. There are plenty of casuals and fanboys that will continue to buy content and play. However the lower numbers will certainly impact many aspects of the game, especially matchmaking. Lower numbers will also mean less revenue and a continual slide away from anything resembling quality content.

  • I don't know if you're familiar with DC Universe Online but they went through the same type of decline. They used to be in the 10 ten list of all mmo's and had 100,000+ players. Unfortunately, some keys talents and managers left and they started removing things that made the game fun. Players left in drove and surely they couldn't keep up, got dropped by Sony, acquired by Daybreak Games and have been on a steady decline since. They don't even make the top 20-30 of mmo lists and have fewer than 20k players a day. Of course they're not "dead" but not alive either. They're more like undead. That's where Destiny is headed.
