Don't be afraid to make a big game
Tell that to the console players who are having to deal with longer and longer menu times.

My optical drive, day one console loads and runs ffxiv/ffxv, rdr2, the call of duty’s, Witcher, etc..., all just fine (the big hitters wrt file size). The only game I ever had issues with was No Man’s Sky when it launched, and that wasn’t a load or menu delay issue. Sounds like Bungie’s engine and architecture, aka a 1977 Ford Pinto Station Wagon, is more a problem than anything I own. Yes, my day one console is ancient, and I’m looking forward to the day one upgrades of both competitor’s this fall. But, Tiger (regardless of how often it’s been “updated”) makes my old console look like next gen, cutting edge architecture.

Regardless of the cause (I agree engine is bad) it is what we have and it has its limits. I have read horror stories of taking 12 hours to load a map into the dev editor.

Hopeful that the new consoles this fall will arrive and this game will be built around a brand new engine.

Consoles have external SSDs now...

yes, and making it a requirement to buy one is a bold move most game companies are not going to want to do.

Yep, a lot of people have 10 Terabyte setups now
