Why nerf top tree Stormcaller?

In this week's TWAB, Stormcaller top, Striker bottom, and Arctrider Bottom are listed as dominant and will be changed in next season. I do not understand how Bungie thinks that the Stromcaller top is as effective and popular in pvp as the other two subclasses. From my PVP experiences, Stromcaller top is far from popular and far from dominant inside 6v6 modes, let along 3v3s. This subclass is surely powerful, Arcweb in one of the more annoying grenade abilities in the game, but it doesn't defeat the fact it's far from overwhelmingly effective in securing kills. I have played Stromcaller top in PVP for almost a year, it's apparent that you get more grenade kill while staying in a safer place of the map. In my experience (a lot of), you can only see some sort of kill if you catch 3 guardians with full health inside a storm grenade, and that is not even consistent. Just pause and think, how often do you actually see Arcweb in your guardian down screen? As a player that plays a decent amount of PVP, I found that it's not frequent at all. It's also apparent that Stromcaller top has an extremely effective super, especially with the Crown of Tempest. I would be happy to see Bungie make some changes around exotic as such (Crown, Contraverse...), but not the base viability of this subclass itself. This subclass has advantages and drawbacks: Chain lightning, teleport during super, extended melee; rare appearance in 3v3s, weird melee registration, no damage resistance upon activation of your super (you cannot use it as a brain dead get-away solution). IMO, top tree Stormcaller is the one of the most balanced subclasses in the game.

  • Whenever they nerf hunters or titans, they feel obligated to nerf warlocks. Yet when nerfing warlocks, they murder them and there is not so much as a peep about the other classes. Their ‘balance’ is garbage, as proven by them taking 3 years to finally adjust the warlock melee, something that is simple to fix yet crucial for class balance, especially when warlocks are the weakest and least used class by far. Also, they really need to stop making dresses for them. I know that Bungie has feminism shoved deep up their asses, but still. You need to recognise who your core customers are. It is no wonder that you are failures of the gaming world.

    • In a Trials enviroment wear grouping with a team is crucial ArcWeb serves every purpose imaginable. It forces the team to spread out meaning you can force an unfavourable fight on the whole team just by hitting one of them with a nade and if they don't spread out its a team wipe with a single ability.

The runaway dominant subclass over all others in the game is Arcstrider. Yet they seem unwilling to correct something OP on Hunter without also lowering other classes. So that is why top Stormcaller will be crushed. Or in the name of evenhandedness, that's how it comes across. Essentially it ends up maintaining Hunter dominance. That's a very popular move because unsurprisingly more players play the easiest, more winnable class - Hunter - by far. Another example is when they nerfed Dawnblade and lowered it's success rate (it's efficiency) whilst buffing Nightstalker and overnight doubled its dominant gap they couldn't just reduce the OHK knife tracking, oh no, they had to also GUT OUT, on all fronts, HHSN as well as it's exotic too (details forthcoming). It sucks but that's the monster they've created.

        • I'm a stormcaller main. It's the best Warlock subclass for PvP, for sure. But it isn't OP. It's just heavily used because Voidwalker and Dawnblade aren't very good.

          • I don’t understand their logic about power creep when it comes to the subclasses. I’d say most classes are not OP at all. Buffing the less used classes until they even them out would make much more sense to me. You know, so I don’t have to dawnblade someone twice to kill them lol.

              • The problem is: bungie doesnt play its own game. They only look into the statistics. And when somethings is overused they will nerf it. Lets say, everyone is using the weakest subclasses in the game (because of preferation or something else) they will nerf it and make it even weaker.

              • Who would of thought an add clear super would be popular in an add clear situation. Oh it's doing its job, well we can't have that. Let's nerf it so the dps sub classes out perform the add clear sub classes at add clearing. 4 months later.....surprisingly dps supers are outperforming add clear supers at add clear. They need to be brought back in line by nerfing it.

                  • Arc web is really powerful... and every time I try my warlock as a stormcaller, I feel like I’m uncounterable. It’s just easy to wipe every enemy or to win super 1v1’s...

Bungie only really seems to care about PVP , Money, and New players. That's there goals for the year keep all those things flush . Lol the rest be dammed . I mean nerfing stuff they make you work hours to earn..... needing supers that already are not that great.. because people are using them to much. WtH? I thought bungies whole thing was " we want to give you the freedom to play how you wanna play" that's sure the b.s they been pushing in vid docs since launch[armory][/armory]

                    • I just find it funny that the OP is asking "why is bungie nerfing classes" and then the replies are all squabbling over which class deserves the nerf. Just kidding, the joke actually is that they dont listen to the forums anyways.

                    • They also said performance in PVE was factored in, but I'm left scratching my head. Bottom tree striker has a close range toolkit, when the meta is to stay out due to boss stomp and excessive AI damage dealt at close range, as well as the dysfunctional resilience stat. Not to mention it loss health regen on kill, which it absolutely needed in PVE. Top tree Stormcaller is substantially weaker than bottom tree due to how much more efficient bottom tree is in farming super energy. And bottom tree Arcstrider is clearly the weakest in PVE. So I'd like to see these numbers, really. Why would anyone use bottom tree Arc in PVE? Why would anyone use bottom tree Striker in PVE over Sentinel Titan? Solo Whisper runs, maybe? An why would anyone in PVE use top tree Stormcaller over middle tree or bottom tree is beyond me.

                            • The Storm caller super itself is actually one of the easiest super to shut down imo. Arc web is extremely effective but not OP. If any super needs a nerf its has to be spectral blade its frikin annoying.

                            • My guess is they are going to nerf arc web range and possibly damage, then nerf ionic blink. Hunter arc strider is probably getting its damage reduction while dodging nerfed. Fist of havoc is probably getting shoulder charge spam nerfed again
