Dawning, was it worth 28+ hour grind?
Wife and I tried our best but neither of us could manage to pull this one off. We pretty much played D2 most of our free time since event started. If you have a just a full time job let alone any other kind of obligation you're pretty much SOL. This grind was completely unreasonable for us as we both have full time jobs, and we don't even have kids. It was also our first Dawning event.
We didn't know about AFK farming until last couple days either. I timed us on strikes and calculated about 9 minutes per strike with load times in between. Averaging 16 essence per strike this amounts to 188 total strikes to get 3k essence, which is about 28+ hours of grind. There are entire video games that you can beat in 30 hours!! I don't know what asshole chose 300 as the goal but I guess no-lifers who have nothing better to do are the loudest ones kicking and screaming for more grind so, here we are.

The only seasonal event I've ever actually enjoyed was sparrow racing and apparently bungie hates it more than it hated trials and just about as much as it hates rift.

Don’t worry, the exact same event will be here next xmas. I’m glad they lived up to their word as to why Eververse was necessary, if I remember correctly it was to make new, free content for everyone to play. Don’t forget the valentines thing, that’ll be new, fresh and exciting. 👍

There is nothing that could possibly warrant burning anymore time on another crummy generic holiday sparrow, especially when I can just pull out all of the unique ones I pulled out free from Bright Engrams prior to this season of season pass nonsense. In other words: [i][b]Bah humbug, Bungie.[/i][/b]

Didn't even grind, I just played the game like I usually do and baked one cookie I had to most materials for (Hackberry Tarts). Before end of dawning a friend and I were saving the gift in return to mass open them on patrol because they give 9000+ XP. Didn't really bake for the Triumphs just for the Gifts because they net up to 5 enhancement cores, didn't care for prisms because they cap at 50. The event is meh, but if you needed enhancement cores this was the best way to acquire them.

I didn’t bother with it this year. Once again, armor was locked behind Eververse, and what loot was obtainable I couldn’t care less about. Plus, Reach on PC came out just before. I couldn’t justify not having fun in Destiny over having fun in Halo.

4 RepliesI baked maybe ten cookies. Looked blankly at the TV and thought: what the actual -blam!- am I doing? If it's your thing, you do you. But Bungie's cash shop has grown larger and larger, while their events remain the same low budget, stale experience. It's nothing more than a temporary refresh of eververse. So, we have microtransactions to fund microtransactions. Any way. That's that.

28h+ grind? Hah, -blam!- that! I played long enough to get a decent smg and stopped before my brain melted from the bounty and boring activity grind that destiny has devolved into.

I did it pretty easily playing gambit prime and crucible, went by pretty quickly for me and I don't think I played all that much recently

2 RepliesI was dead set on completing the sparrow quest, until I got to 200 and realized there was a whole other quest step remaining and I now had to get to 300. I said NOPE and gave up, that quest stopped being fun after the first 50 cookies. Not that it wasn't completely doable for me personally, it was just way too much for a sparrow I'd likely never use.

Don't think I ever had a full dawning armor set, on any guardian. Don't care for the ghost. Don't care for the sparrows. Don't care for the shaders. I just used Eva and her oven for easy XP and quick season pass grinding, that's it.

It wasn't joyus or exciting. It wasn't giving. And, I'm sorry... Anyone who needs to resort to afk farming is duh... Not playing the game... A game. What an embarrassment bungie has become.

I baked for tower occupants and deleted bounties that would require interstellar travel time sink. Just for the double XP. Delete quest for sparrow. Wasted a lot of glimmer quitting bounties and repurchasing until I had all tower vendors. I think I hit like 70 cookies baked. It still was a waste of time.

For what you get? Absolutely not worth it, boring event, no good rewards and max grind... Bungie’s winning formula! Working as intended. I sincerely believe they have almost all together checked out, they could care less how this game is doing or where it is headed.

4 RepliesI’ve made peace with the fact that if I don’t quit my job and give up on relationships altogether, I won’t complete around 75% of quests and achievements in the game. Titles, pinnacles, exotics, holiday stuff, IB... forget it. I’m here for the run/jump/shoot and maybe to chip away at the odd exotic quest or gear that I REALLY want. The rest of it... I can live without. It’s not worth the effort required.

Yeah, it's stupid. I didn't even go for it. Between last year and this year I had like 240. I'm not going to play extra just to play extra. I have to be doing something compelling, and 300 is just too excessive. Not worth it.

Its actually funny cause for people who maxed all the previous dawnings, we only had to bake 150 cookies and we had(or at least i had) 1000s of essence left over from last year. Ended up baking 1000+ treats give or take

I went from season level ~47 to 200 and got my +20. I'm done with bounties til march

I had about half the sparrow progress that carried over from last year. I was fed up with getting essence and threw myself in a forge overnight and woke up with like 800 essence

I enjoyed it like I do every Dawning. Already looking forward to next year's event.
