What do you consider a "Try Hard" in PvP?

I don't get what y'all are looking for. Players to just walk around and stand still when shooting? I see a ton of people complaining about them in PvP. What exactly is this kind of player and what makes you dislike them?

    • Running the best weapon in the best archetype with the best exotic and the best subclass religiously, especially with ~1,000 or more kills on it. Bonus points to Stompees Hunters. I'm perfectly okay with Hand Cannon Shotgun if you're running a Duke and a Perfect Paradox, or GL SMG if it's Militia's Birthright and Subjunctive. And if you're running Auto Rifle Sidearm, use the best ones, you'll need it. But the highest tier weapons and classes across the board? Ugh

    • I never got that saying either. Its like, of course I'm gonna try. Are people expecting me to walk in the sniper lane on purpose and stand there? Am I gonna try hard? Of course, I suck so I need to try hard. Am I getting sweaty? Hell yea, I have a 48 in tv in a small room, s h i t gets hot in here! Especially in the summer

      • I think that it is important to distinguish between 'try hards' and 'meta crutchers'. I have no problem with people trying to do well, I have a problem with people finding the easiest and most op weapon available and abusing it while claiming to be skilled

          • Someone that refuses to change their stereotypical try hard meta, regardless of game mode. Like this Warlock I saw with Dust Rock, Not Forgotten and Wardcliff in Momentum Control. Like Seriously? Must have been a Republican or something crazy like that.

            • I'll never understand the hate on pinnacle weapons like NF. Such a long grind to get and then you are looked down on for using it? Why? I will rock revoker and NF all day because I worked my ass off the get those weapons. I guess that makes me a try hard? I dont think so. I never hated on being killed with it on my way to it because I knew how hard it was to get it. Now that I have it I get hate mail for using it. Rather humorous honestly.

I consider a try hard to: -Play crucible non stop -Have 5500 glory points and potentially unbroken -use the same generic loadout every game and have at least 20k kills under their weapon's name. -renders everyone's opinion on the crucible pointless because they are elite Anything else I've missed?

                  • From what understand, it's mainly people taking something way more serious than they should. In Destiny's case, this would be like a team all using full META load outs in Classic Mix to pad their stats or just stomp people. The best equivalent I can think of is treating a Church Softball match like it's the MLB.

                    • Personally, the people I generally refer to as try hards are players who are above average in skill, but care so much about being "sweaty" that they try to come off as much better than they are. They inflate their stats and accomplishments by treating every match of Crucible in any playlist like it's the World Championships. Never take off their DRB-NF-Wardcliffe loadout on hunter with 10 mobility + stompees, always in 6-stacks and hold hands. Normally have one-word gamer tags or clan names that don't make grammatical sense, such as "Anonymosity" lmao. That's a real clan that I've seen.

                        Urban Dictionary says...
tryhard - (plural tryhards) (derogatory) - A person usually of little talent who tries hard to succeed, especially through imitation, usually to gain fame or popularity.
Based on the above, a "try-hard" PVP'er will use highly forgiving weapons and auto-aim one-shot-skills to maximize kill counts. This will include shot-guns, rocket launchers, SMG's, AR's, and any weapon that does not require good aim to yield good results. They do not necessarily optimize KD ratios since survival and self-preservation require situational awareness skills. Snipers, slug shotguns, hand cannons, bows, etc... require considerable precision aim to work well, so I can't really put these into the "try-hard" weapon list.

                        • I run crimson, last word and long goodbye. Crimson for bit of distance or last word for rushing and long goodbye for laughs and the first easy kill. I love sniping, wether they're static, mid air moving or peaking, peakers are the best specifically the ones who do not learn from the first kill. I can run back to the same position every round in survival and the same person will be there again, makes no sense but I'll take the kill. Then there are the ones who change their tactics after being sniped and try to flank you. Game on then makes it interesting.

                          • It springs from jealousy. For example, the only way I could ever be as good at this as you is if I had no job, lived with my parents and had 80 hours a week to 'train'. Players who rek super hard give the impression that they trained like Rocky in Rocky IV to beat the Russian - and people who constantly get matched with and/or rekt by those people jump to this conclusion and find the conclusion they jumped to pathetic and sad, in a way to make themselves feel better about not being as awesome as that guy/gal... Some people can rek without trying hard. Some people have to try hard in order to rek. If I hate the fact that you rekt me, I'm going to call you a try-hard and pretend you have no life and are pathetic so I can feel better about myself. Not me personally. I've never done this. I promise. lol

                          • 1) Someone who hides in the back of the map, only pushes when he has 3 teammates with them in order to persevere their KD. ( I have only seen these players a handful of times). 2) Full fireteams of all meta in a connection based game type. Outside of that just see a bunch of player running the meta hoping to put up numbers. I don’t consider that being a try hard.

                          • I don’t get into the whole try hard nonsense. If players are better than me then that’s just what it is. I get annoyed sometimes but I don’t put it on the opposition. I usually die to my own mistakes. I once fell off the map 3 times in one game cause I was having a really bad off day. But some people will say people are try hards cause of weapons they use or their play style. I hate getting stomped on but when you see a team playing well together, being aggressive and kicking your butt then you can’t really be mad at them if your team is passive and not in tune with each other. It’s mostly a team game unless you play rumble.

                            • I’ll be real people who I consider better than me or repeatedly perform impressive feats are what I would call try hard and I prefer to not be matched against those players because I’m simply not on that level ,but Ig bungie believes my barely above average ass is because I’m always matched against people like that whether it be impressive sniping or just great maneuvering typically the impressive sniping is the one that bothers me the most ,or people that just seem to wreck ass with pinnacles I see little to no skill there tbh.
