Shadowkeep / Undying review: All I do is a dungeon and nightfall a week.

Never in D2 history have I simply not had anything to do. No, I don’t do the raids. Haven’t done them since D2 launched and that never seemed to create a void of content. SHADOWKEEP: As someone who got the deluxe collector’s edition pre-ordered (yeah mainly for the cryptoglyph; with is actually really high quality I must admit) — all that’s left to do in Shadowkeep is a weekly dungeon, maybe find a rabbit or two, and that’s it. Where is the dreaming city level of hidden unlocks and weekly evolutions that made the game worth the time? Apart from the weekly darkness lore drop and the 6 Eris fireteam memories there really isn’t much left. The firewall weekly is redundant after week 4. The good in Shadowkeep is the story. The first mission when we find the pyramid was amazing, mainly because I was sure Bungie wouldn’t let us see one until D3. The moon armour for titan and warlock is foul. For hunter it has more appeal. The lectern is a weird reimagining of the chalice mechanic, that forgets the main appeal of the chalice was choosing the weapon’s stat rolls. The dungeon is great fun, if a little short. That being said the speed of completion makes weekly pinnacle farms non-tedious. Altar of sorrow is nothing more than a triumph lock for the ghost and ship. The fact that the triumph for the ship requires essentially a full fireteam playing for the ship and not a quick boss win while you can only bring up to two fireteam members with you means the ship is locked behind the first player generated rng in D2 which I do not like at all. Disappointed the the scarlet swarm sparrow and ship and ghost are all eververse. Not even a 100k scarlet keep emblem. Also need to mention the ridiculous amount of redlining for *paid* content or content locked behind silver. In the case of the hive sparrow and ship the are reskins of Winchester’s Ruin and Eris’s hive ship from season 4. Deathbringer and xenophage quests were both enjoyable. UNDYING: Undying has been nothing more than a shopping spree through a guardian cosmetica. As part of the pre-order I got all four seasons unlocked, and I doubt I’ll get my money’s worth. Imagine is I didn’t have Shadowkeep, all I would have that’s new is one group activity that you only played to level the season pass, a raid I won’t play, and get some weapons that can still be outclassed by old metas (for all the talk of optative, I’ve never once seen it in action in PvP). The season pass shines in its rewards of usable materials. My fear was that it would be a purely ornamental rank up system like in fortnite. The amount of material rewards should still be increased substantially if they are to be the sole reason one buys a season pass. Very disappointed in the fact that this season does not include a whisper/outbreak/bad juju hidden quest. Such an addition along with the typical weekly quest grind for catalyst progress would have been great. The closest to this that we get is eriana’s vow (a free gifted exotic) and a mindless grind for a catalyst that outweighs the gun’s use. I really hope I’m proved wrong and that the next seasons will be better. We’ll find out in two weeks.

Never purchased Y3. Flat out refused to even though my gf and best friend begged me. They aren't serious gamers and just like to shoot things, big deal. But I take gaming a little more seriously. I broadened their horizons with a few other games even gifting a few to my best friend because his money situation became a tad tight owing to job issues. Now he is repaying me by gifting me Shadowkeep while it is on sale. The only thing I'm interested in is lore at this point. The quality of Y3 endgame is so lackluster, no rational Guardian should bother unless it is gifted to them.

  • There is no lack of content. You're another player that is complaining that the game is not tuned to your personal preferences. Despite the fact that the game has millions of players, each of whom has their own ideas on what the game should be. The end-game is a min-maxing game....not a loot-collection game. So this Pokemon mentality going around and collecting everything is not the goal of hte game anymore. The goal is to min-max, and to create, polish and perfect.....builds.

    • Well I run a lot of things weekly. Lots of Master NFs. Few Time Trials. Pit of Heresy. Crucible. Triumph targets. All this divided among all three characters. So lots to do for me. Don't know about you and others though.

If you dont like the other stuff, i dont know if i'd buy this game if i were you. I like a majority of the content so Destiny is a huge value to me. I hope you saved your money for a review of the next season before buying. I have a feeling that you will be disappointed.
Very disappointed in the fact that this season does not include a whisper/outbreak/bad juju hidden quest.
When did they promise us a new one of these?

        • If you don't do raids than you simply have nothing to do in Forsaken after 6 weeks of playing too. :D

It feels exactly like D1 Y1. The only rewarding endgame activities were the raid and nightfall

          • I play for cores now. I get my gunsmith bounties and maybe go to Spider and then I’m done. Maybe I might stick around for the odd Vex Invasion Portal or random bounty, bit not for long.

Raid, nightmare hunts, dungeon, crucible, gambit, nightfall, alter of sorrows, title grind, moon weapons, vex offensive, season pass weapons, etc. There’s plenty of activities you can play.

              • Bungie is in a dead end maze with all this content they don't know how to develop. Leveling progression is weak, expansion content is being weak (though I like Shadowkeep as a whole) up to now and there's nothing new besides unbalanced nightfalls and maps they don't know how to put up. Season of the Undying is being worse than Forsaken, don't know how this is possible. Boring mechanics, weak lore storytelling... Devs killing the game as we see almost every damn time.

              • My only hope is that they made this season light as there is already content from Shadowkeep and this gives them time to work on the next seasons. I doubt that is the case but if the seasons are gonna be like this minus the content from the main dlc, this year is gonna be a mess. Maybe this feeling cos we got so spoiled from Year 2, but looking at Vex Offensive it was one of the most underwhelming activities. It maybe fun but how much are you gonna do the same activity over and over again. The only reason to do this activity is the title which doesn't really interest me so much and same goes for the Vex invasion on the moon. I do understand that the season only costs $10 but I rather pay more and actually have a decent enjoyable season. It hurt me to say but I think and from what I can see so far, the Bungie and Activision split looks like it was not the best choice. Eververse have not been so monetized since Year 1 which they know how we feel about that, losing the engram was a big mistake as it push us more to use silver. I do understand that they want to make money but maybe can they meet us half way? I want to give the game a chance but if the game keeps going this way I feel like this year its gonna be my last. I am trying to give a chance after a chance but the "this year we will be better" and end up being the same routine is getting a bit frustrating year after year.

                • Most people are hoping this seasons content was light as they had shadowkeeps content to bolster it and the following seasons will be better but this is Bungie they have constantly done less and less with the seasonal content/dlc since Destiny 1 and have only reduced the cost to the playrr by like 5%... but they have made more and more profits due to doubling down on macro transactions.

                • It’s definitely been a rough one. They aren’t getting anywhere with disposable content. I don’t feel like they will do too much this year unfortunately. Ritual weapons, a disposable activity, and Eververse are all we are going to have. Artifact mods will keep us using different builds for the seasons. Take away Shadowkeep content and this season doesn’t have much. We will see how much they have learned next season. If it wasn’t for the content of Shadowkeep, this season would’ve really flopped.
