Matchmaking for 950 and 980 Power ("Legend" and "Master") Activities: A Proposal

I've done enough 980 Nightmare Hunts and Nightfall: The Ordeal with "randoms" the past few weeks to realize we don't really need a restriction on matchmaking for these activities. I've cleared them multiple times without even using Discord for voice communication (used the in-game text chat only). However, where this breaks down using the current, in-game matchmaking system is when an activity requires a specific loadout, such as "Match Game," or uses other complicated modifiers. These require some brief, albeit necessary, pre-"game" planning, whereas the current matchmaking in-game would immediately launch you into an activity with a locked loadout—no good. As a solution, Bungie could allow matchmaking for these Legend and Master/Pinnacle activities, but with a few adjustments: 1. Determine and implement some sort of minimum Power threshold, but only when using matchmaking. For example, no more than 20 Power below the Power of the activity (so, you must be 960 to use random matchmaking for a 980 Nightmare Hunt). 2. If you load in with your pre-made Fireteam of 3 Guardians, you can be at whatever Power you'd like. This could even be treated as a "Firewalled" instance for Solo attempts, similar to the Haunted Forest. 3. When using random matchmaking, you are "matched" into Orbit, and automatically opted-in to Fireteam/Team Chat. This is used as a "lobby" of sorts, so you can sort out weapon and subclass loadouts, talk strategy, or even—gasp—enter into voice chat, if so desired. Doing the above would make everyone happy. It lets the high-end or challenge-oriented players still solo the tough content, but it also opens the door for the socially shy or friend disadvantaged to easily and quickly—without third-party apps or websites—match with two other Guardians interested in running the top-tier endgame activities. You get a chance to quickly plan and strategize, and then take the content on. Everyone wins, and no more "punishing" the "solo" players, of whichever stripe. And best of all, Bungie doesn't need to create a detailed or complicated "lobby" or anything like that—just match the Guardians into a Fireteam in Orbit, and let them hash it out from there before they launch the activity. (I understand this might be easier on Steam/PC than on Console, due to in-game communication differences, but I'm writing from a Steam/PC perspective.)

 • Yes please give us matchmaking all the way. I'm fairly new to D2 and still managed to beat Nightfall Pyramidion on legend with just 2 people. As it turns out, the lack of matchmaking just made it harder for us and yet this feature is supposedly disabled to protect us from failure. Regarding the equipment coordination issue, I think an easier solution (implementation wise) would be to just to delay equipment lock until you leave the spawn area in the mission. To prevent people from jumping into higher difficulties with poor mission knowledge there could be some kind of unlocking progression for matchmaking, such as requiring x wins with at least y score on the previous difficulty. (for example; 5 wins with 75k+ score on heroic would enable legend matchmaking)
