Completely unable to play Destiny 2 (had on Battle.Net but NEVER played, NEVER had Bungie Account)

Hello. I preloaded Destiny 2 when I had heard it was coming to Steam. While I had it loaded onto my Battle.net account, I never used it. I tried using it on Steam but I am completely unable to get past the "Cross Save Ready?" screen after the game (purportedly) signs on. Since I am completely new to the game and I will not play it on any other platforms, I have no need for the Cross Save support. I even created an account by way of Steam using my web browser to make sure there's something to sign into. I also imagine that, in an ideal world, if there is no account to sign into, it'll have me create one, again by way of Steam. The sequence of events is as follows: 1. I start the game. 2. The Bungie splash screen comes up. 3. The game title screen comes up, asking me to press Enter to continue or Esc to exit. 4. I press enter to continue. 5. The "CROSS SAVE READY?" window shows up. 6. I press enter to continue. Since I do not and will not have any other platform to save with, I just hit enter. 7. Nothing happens. It looks like it wants the same input like when the screen first starts up. The status bar fills really quickly, then back to the way the screen was when I first got to it. 8. Hit Esc to get back to the title screen. 9. Hit Esc to exit the game. It happens in these instances: 1. I have no Bungie account. 2. I create a Bungie account by way of my Steam account. 3. I transfer stuff from my Battle.Net account. I had it installed but never played it. As a result, the number of items that got transferred was 0, which did not surprise me. I've done all the usual things, like verifying file integrity (it passes, but does not work) and restarting steam (also does not work). Does anyone have any idea of what might be happening? I am at wit's end and am considering uninstalling the game. Thanks in advance.

    Hold the button to accept and continue on through the Cross-Save menu. You said the status bar fills up quickly, so it sounds like you're trying to hold it. If this is the case, please reply back saying you're specifically holding it for an extended amount of time.
