Lol all this DM drama is pathetic and stupid. It is literally akin to a bunch of kids LARPing and getting mad at each other because there’s no medium of common resolvement.
“I shoot you with my machine gun.”
“Shield!”
“Okay fine! I cut your shield with my lightsaber!”
“Um, but I use my force field too!”
“That’s not fair!”
“I shoot a rocket at you!”
“I use my force field too!”
“Wahhh! You’re not playing fair!”
“Wahhh you’re not playing fair either!”
The thing about life that makes it interesting is the force of the unknown. “Random Chance”. Many times battles or fights are decided by forces out of your control.
Giving all the power for the DM to decide is stupid too, because DM’s tend to be too ignorant of character abilities to keep consistency and they end up throwing out consistency for the sake of “hurrr durrr a dramatic fight.”
Like, holy shit, we’re about to reinvent the wheel here folks...
...use your gorram dice folks...
Holy shee-it! Mind blowing, I know!
Dice are the great equalizer. It keeps the DM from exercising bias and stupidity. It keeps the players from always trying to 1-up each other.
All this drama can simply be resolved with the use of dice.

That’s why you hold conventions to say “You can’t use this weapon. It’s inhumane.” Happens in real life.

Okay Flaming Poop Monster.
Okay Flaming Poop Monster.
Lol okay Nixy-boy. So I’m apparently the guy you’ve blacklisted even though I have hardly RP’d here, the last time only been your weird tidal-wave post? Who shat on your pizza? Who passed in your Cheerios?

You call that rping? I thought you were just trolling. And if you don't like being compared tonthatbjerk, maybe stop acting like him.
You call that rping? I thought you were just trolling. And if you don't like being compared tonthatbjerk, maybe stop acting like him.
Lol how triggered you are by me by one mere response that even you comment “you call that RPing?” Grow some thick skin “witch queen” as you so refer yourself to. Oh, by the way, did you know that, historically, witches had the tendency to suffer and be infested with various types of diseases due to their unsanitary lifestyles practices? Are you so triggered that you can’t spell “to that jerk”? I’ve quoted you so that you can’t feint self-correction. How am I remotely acting like whomever you are referring to? Whoever it is, it definitely seems that you have an unhealthy obsession with them. Ironic that you’d call me a poop monster when in reality, witches would probably handle fecal matter with their bare hands to throw into their cauldrons as an ingredient and then probably lick their fingers after. If you can’t handle your “great plan” subverted by a guy who can waterbend then perhaps you should get over yourself and plan more thoroughly. A “queen” so easily jostled by “lesser folk” is probably not stable enough for any throne.

Nofmally I would agree with this wholeheartedly, but the problem with that is, either they trust the DM to roll for them or they all start rolling 20’s. I love this podcast called Androids and Aliens. This character Dax, he has some badass stuff and he is an android. His player seems to think that the way to win is to roll natty 1's.... He might get in 1 or 2 hits, but the DM focuses on the players how roll well or are closest. PeeGee has the same problem. She can shoot with her tail! Not with a 7 though or a 5 or an 11 or a 3 or a natty 1....... Some of these folks can't build a solid character that is not a God, so why would they be honest about their dice rolls when there is no one to see it? They crave that "W" too much. They can't see how much better it will be to earn that "W" than to just wish it into existence.

There are apps and websites for fair dice rolls for people who do tabletop gaming with each other over social media like this or discord etc. I haven’t used them myself but I hear they are reliable. I myself haven’t engaged much in RP here because yes, not only the “players” tend to god mod, but the DMs or referees tend to moderate horribly. The only way that I know of that can create some common ground or be an equalizer is some sort of dice method. Maybe throw stats out entirely and just roll dice? Lol or flip a coin at least. If someone is lying about their results with coin flipping it’ll be pretty obvious.

I totally agree it will be obvious, but it is just like how Cthulhu appears and goes to eat Tommy boy and then one of our Goku's appear at a fused super saiyan lvl 9999 and winks, causing a massive wind full of Iron Lightsabers to slice Cthulhu to ribbons and he dies. I did not know there were apps for dice rolling. I had heard that there was a system online that you could use to kept track of your character, status effects, hp, etc. Hoss, I am not disagreeing with your points, I am just being the devil's advocate. You make good points and I think there are a number of folks who will play honestly.
-
Oh no, I know you aren’t disagreeing and I apologize if it seems I am coming across as upset. I’m kind of doing devil’s advocate of my own too. Perhaps events or stories should indicate the power levels that are allowed? That way, even if you are Super Saiyan 666 Cthulhu, you can participate in appropriate situations that would be fitting for your character. I guess it’s kind of like One Punch Man where there are tiers of threats and tiers of heroes that are summoned to deal with the threats appropriately. A-level heroes aren’t called in to deal with bank robbers, for example. Maybe only like D or E level heroes.

I just wish more folks wanted to be Mumen Rider and not Saitama. I like Mumen Rider, lol. (Inner nerd showing through, lol) Saitama always used to be the NPC that the DM would bring in to save you if you were not supposed to die. No one wants to start out as Mumen Rider anymore. Back in the day, we used to occasionally do our God Wars. It allowed us to be OP as all hell, but even then, you were fighting other Gods and it was about out thinking your opponent. Btw, I did not think you were, I just wanted to make sure you did not think I was being a douchenozzle. Figure with the way I am out of it, it is best to hedge my bets and cover my ass so that I do not come off as being hostile. It is kinda hard to explain, but I do not feel like myself since the surgery and I don't want to create issues I am not sure I will deal with correctly at this time. I hope that explains why I might seem to be off & why I am just covering my bases.

The problem is that many writers here probably tend to not be good at strategizing or they aren’t good enough yet at writing. Or perhaps it’s purely a pride issue and they get too offended when a fight isn’t playing out the way they like.
Back in the day, we used to occasionally do our God Wars. I wish that precedent of “out thinking” you opponent was more popular. A good fight would be like the Jason Bourne clip where the opponents are just countering each other until one makes a crucial mistake. I’ll keep you in prayer, for what it’s worth to you.

I really like the Jason Bourne stuff, though his last movie was just a bit....stale, maybe? I don't know, it felt like it was missing something crucial the other movies had. I even loved the one with Jeremy Renner in it, lol. I really do wonder sometimes what drives the God modding. I have thought at times it was pride in the character they built, like a parent has in their child. I have wondered if it attachment to a cool ass character they designed. If it is just a need to not lose and be the hero. The God Wars were a blast. You created your ultimate character or just took a character you loved and boosted him to Godhood. I had a Demon Lord character who ripper the armour off of an angel and wore it, which saved him from Angelic weapons, but he took constant damage from wearing Holy armour. So, in order to mitigate the damage, I had to work my Demon Lord in to being Neutral Evil. Also, I had to make sure that when I was doing evil, I had to strip off the armour in order to prevent it being tainted & losing that Angelic weapon immunity (that was what the DM put on it, I just capitalized on his armour immunity). I also had another character who was created by the Dragons to be their God. He was fun, but he hated magic, which put him at a disadvantage to the other Gods, because he never bothered to learn to use it. He just had pure brute strength and fighting skill. It means a lot. This surgery has taken more out of me than the last 2 have. I am having trouble with my memory & constantly exhausted. Even worse, I think I am going to have to have a knee surgery soon. The joys of pushing yourself too hard at work and living too wild, lol.
It is probably all of that with a little bit of desiring to live vicariously through that persona. But when it comes to “fighting”, a natural mindset is to persist until victory is achieved. But suffering and being disadvantaged does inspire ingenuity and adaptation. Video games aside, people god mod in RPs because they probably have not much reason not to. Was this on the general offtopic forums or was this within a private group? I used to get in a bit of this kind of stuff the DOJO and Digital Dojo groups but they ended up regressing into the issues Offtopic RP is having now (but way worse).
I also had another character who was created by the Dragons to be their God.
See, this is good compelling writing. Sure you’re characters are powerful but you include a drawback or weakness or handicap to match it. Not that I’m perfect at it myself, but perhaps the more powerful one is, the more the suffering they should have to accompany it.
It means a lot. Hang in there and stay strong. Don’t feel like you are wasting away or wasting time. Perhaps this is a season of your life where, through limitation, you can focus on other pursuits or aspects of life that you didn’t have time or make time for before.
