I propose a Council of Dungeon Masters to settle disputes and pass judgement upon those who godmod.
And that is all of my plan I'm going to reveal because holy shit let me do my stupid event thing so I can kill my character off first.

I better have made that list of DMs on the council. Or at least the alternate list in case the originals don’t respond.

Woah, woah, woah. Now, im not really a part of the whe rp shindig, but if you are going to make this Council, you should have some things in mind 1. The Council should be seperate and outside of the rp itself. There are no characters, levels, or abilites that matter, only real people using their experience and intuition to pass judgement. 2. Remember to have fun. This ties in with number 1 in that you should be loose with judgement. The Council is there to keep op characters in check, not just rule out anybody you have a bone to pick with. 3. There should be a clear definition of the powers of this Council. If you want to give the Council real power over other people's stuff, you need to make sure that they cannot and will not abuse it. I recommend drafting a charter that includes protections of rp characters, abilities, and rp property, as well as a written, definite list of the Council's powers. Some ideas for the powers of the Council I recommend making it as simple as possible. If you try to account for every hypothetical situation, you'll only drive youselves mad. If i was making this Council, this is what i would list: The Council has the power to punish power creeps, with the ultimate (most severe) punishment being blacklisting. Blacklisting will never be the first step; the Council must request nerfs for the offending character first. If the offender does not comply within 3 days (random time limit, you guys set whatever you want), then they may be blacklisted. The Council may not outright ban any characters, abilities, or property of any rp characters, and if a user is blacklisted, then they are blacklisted for the offended event only. The Council has the power to review and analyze characters, and use precedent ruling for judgement. However, all cases must be brought to the Council as a complaint; Council members may not file complaints themselves. Council members may ask other users to bring a case to the Council, but only if that user agrees that it should be looked at. (We want to avoid bias, and we want to give the real power to the rpers themselves, not the five Coincil members.) Before an event starts, it must be brought to the Council first. (This will avoid events trampling over each other.) The Council can only stall events from starting, and the Council must give the dm a date, time limit, or specific time when they may begin their event. (The issue is the god-modders, not the events themselves. We don't want to restrict anybody from doing an event, but we also want each event to run its full course. A little regulation may go a long way.) An active dm (a dm currently running an event) may not be a part of the Council. If a Council member desires to start an event, they may select another user to temporarily take their seat until the Council member's event is over. (To prevent bias). If the Council requests a nerf, it shall be made by the offender and approved by the Council. Requesting nerfs will require a 3-2 majority, but blacklisting will require a 4-1 majority. Again, i'm not much into the rp scene, so the final desicions are completely on y'all. However, i do want to help avoid as much internet drama as possible. These were just some ideas floating around in my head, and i hope they help! :)

I love how everyone else's input on this has been more controlling than my original intentions. I thought I was supposed to be the villain here, damn.
-
I like this idea. It could really help the balance as long it's kept in check itself
-
Lol well just from my observation, some of the council members don’t have the integrity, or have consistently demonstrated a lack of it.
-
There's no council yet, so we can't really know that.
-
I would highly recommend against a council. They had a council of sorts back in the dojo group and it very much went to their heads.
-
Hmm, thank you for letting me know. I think we're going to try a Beta of it, but you bring up a very good point. If it does go through then it is essential that make it clear they have no real power
-
A council of Dungeon masters? Interesting. And how does one become a member? What if one day a player decides they want to do a one shot rp, but they aren't in the council? Do they need permission?
-
Not like that. Just a group of chosen DMs to like referee on things and stuffs.
-
And what power would they have to referee other rp's? I like the concept, but what if I decided for whatever reason to say no? "I can do X and I'm not listening to anyone other than the dm I've been abusing."
-
The Blacklist!
-
And would people need to abide by this "Blacklist"?
-
If the accused is on the Blacklist they are ignored for the rest of the event.
-
And if the dm or players that play under that blacklisted dm decide not to listen and play anyway? Basically, will we actually be able to govern rp without restricting people too much as to make them want to play somewhere else?
-
I dont know what you want me to say here. Obviously we dont have any real power. If someone is a problem, ignoring them is pretty much all we can do.
-
unfortunately, that is the same conclusion I found. Getting people to ignore in tandem though is a different matter.
-
Well, I made announcements of blacklisting in the events themselves...for that one specific guy... Also had the idea for a group pretty much entirely for organizing things a bit better. Planning events so people arent dropping them on the same day, splitting the players.
-
That makes sense with the council idea. You either play by their rules, or we do not condone your rp. An rp not sealed by the council will have a disclaimer that we cannot help you if the dm becomes unfair and that any experience or loot you obtain from said rp are invalid. Basically, it never happened.
-
Thats... actually more restrictive than what I had in mind.
-
Do tell, how far would yours go in that regard? I'm uncertain where to find a proper balance, and I'll admit mine does seem a bit more stringent.
-
Pretty much exactly what I said. Just a group for all the folks that frequently host events to plan ahead with each other so no ones stepping on anyone's toes. Obviously wouldn't account for the folks that want to do one shots but I think it would still hell greatly reduce the spamming of posts at once. As for the Council idea, I'm thinking 5 elected Judges to settle disputes between players that feel unfairly blacklisted, DMs claiming someone's character is too strong, and other stuff that might come up.
-
Interesting. I can definitely see my vision was more... intrusive in regards to yours. I like the council to settle disputes. My only worry is how many are needed to settle a dispute. Stopping your rp like it's American football under official review seems tedious to me.
-
I think its something that could be handled after the fact for future events.
-
And the entire council would meet and decide upon the legality of any actions in an rp that comes to them? Of course they couldn't judge every action, but one's that come to their attention.
