The State of Pinnacle Weapons (And my recommendations on how to fix it.)

I like this idea!

1

I want perks- not a new tier.

4

I want curated rolls, not perks or a new tier.

I just spent HOURS and HOURS trying to get the new Pinnacle Weapon, "Randy's Throwing Knife." I finally finish this long quest, and the gun is garbage. No I don't mean "I don't like it," I mean it is literally trash. It is the worst archetype of scout rifle as far as time to kill is concerned, and it has issues with accuracy on initial zoom. I also got the "Edgewise" machine gun, and while it it okay, (WAY better than Randy's) it is nowhere NEAR worth the grind or title it has been given. It is a normal gun. I get that you didn't like how "The Recluse" and "Luna's Howl" and "Not Forgotten" broke the crucible, but it is not because they had over-powered perks that they broke the crucible, it was a lack of foresight. It isn't the fact that they had overpowered perks that made them take over the crucible, but the fact that they had perks that played with time to kill, and range. Any other stat could be maxed out, and if it doesn't change time to kill or range, it wouldn't be broken. Fast reload- nah that's not overpowered. Less flinch when you're shot- you still take the same amount of damage, so it doesn't REALLY matter. PUT GOOD PERKS AND STATS ON YOUR PINNACLE REWARDS. I would say personally make an entire new tier of armor/weapon. (That's right, ARMOR TOO.) Make them Exotic quality, but you can only equip one per character (Not one weapon and one armor, one total.) Give them exotic-level perks that are unique to the weapon/armor, just make sure they don't mess with time to kill!!! (This means no healing, and no excessive damage buffs that you cannot get on a randomly rolled legendary, give them other over powered buffs, like reload speed, or entirely unique weapon types.) An example of an perk you could give a "Pinnacle" weapon is something like, "A singular precision hit buffs reload speed by 50%, stacks up to 10 times." or "Precision kills disable abilities and lower your resilience, but massively increase movement speed for 5 seconds." Maybe give them a less potent ability and more potent stats (Not messing with range or time to kill, as this would break the crucible.) Is this overpowered? YES, that's the whole point! (Exotics NEED to be uniquely powerful over Legendaries, and these are supposed to be equals, earned for doing extremely difficult tasks- to be as good and as unique as an exotic.) but it doesn't mess with time to kill so it won't really break the crucible. It just provides massive CONVENIENCE, not ensured VICTORY. There is a difference. Make the level of gear Red (Just like Common is white, Uncommon is Green, Rare is Blue, Legendary is Purple, Exotic is Yellow, and then Pinnacle can be Red.) With this you should make them difficult to get. INCREDIBLY difficult to get. That way you can see someone with the new Pinnacle cape or helmet or Pulse Rifle and you can say, "Wow, they put a lot of time into that." Not "Wow, they are running Recluse, better avoid getting close or else my whole team will die." In this way "Revoker" was a perfect example of a pinnacle weapon. It gives your weapon "Mulligan Plus" as I like to call it. Nothing that can't be countered by any other sniper, but man does it provide convenience. We need more weapons like that, but not all equipped at once. That'd make things too hectic. Just one "Pinnacle" level piece of gear at a time, alongside 2 exotics. (One weapon and one armor.) Maybe warlocks could get a Pinnacle reward that lets that specific armor's mods cost 1/2 as much, or maybe that makes rift reload weapons automatically, but on a timer like "Revoker" shots so it doesn't spam like crazy, (Refills the magazine, but only a set amount of time after the magazine empties.) and Titans can finally get their "Twilight Garrison" dodge back, and Hunters can get "Bones of EAO," or fast dodge like Destiny 1's dodge. (But the dodge doesn't reload weapons or provide buffs a normal dodge would, just mobility like Destiny 1. because lets be honest, it's a little bit stupid for an in-air dodge to take up your exotic slot. it's a fun thing, not an overpowered thing.) And don't restrict the Pinnacle rewards to just "PvP" "Gambit" and "PvE." Make them just general quests, one has steps that are in Raids and Nightfalls, and maybe minor steps in PvP, others are more PvP dominant, requiring 2100 and maybe a few smaller steps in Nighfalls and Raids. They should be for being good at the game as a whole, not "I ran around one strike with a grenade launcher for hours and now I'm cool." (Looking at you Wendigo.) or "I ran around Crucible with a grenade launcher for hours and now I'm cool." (Looking at you Mountaintop.) I would say make the quest for something like Mountaintop more like, "Complete all Scourge of the Past, and Last Wish raid challenges." as requirement 1 "Complete a 3 different Nightfall strikes with a score of 300k or more, and defeat all champions." as requirement 2 and "Defeat 10,000 guardians in Gambit or Crucible, Gambit kills count more towards progress." as requirement 3. All of the requirements should be on the same step, and you can progress all at the same one and do them in whatever order you want, like Randy's Scout rifle and Medals and Glory Score. Maybe even harder, this gear- after all- is supposed to be the symbol of "I played a TON." or "I am INCREDIBLY SKILLED." I think this system would work. They should only have fun/convenient perk is the important thing to remember! People love to use fun/unique guns/perks, and people love to use convenient perks, even if they only make the gun feel better, not buffing damage, but people will always look for what kills the fastest first- DON'T GIVE THEM THAT, but also DON'T SHY AWAY FROM REWARDING US AS MUCH AS WE DESERVE FOR DIFFICULT TASKS!!! What is your opinion? Answer in the poll! Calling them "Ritual Weapons" is SO STUPID. There is nothing "Ritual" to do with them. The name doesn't make sense, and the tasks don't make sense for such incredibly mediocre loot. FIX IT BUNGIE PLEASE!!!
