(By a fan of Destiny 1 and 2) In a nutshell: Bungie cares more about the core gameplay than the story of Destiny deserves and requires for deeper engagement for some players - dare I say, many? Destiny 2 in my opinion is a beautiful, majestic, engaging and well made game. There a lot of nits to pick for some out there but I'm just a dumb lowbie who enjoys a bit of a pew pew and some vroom vroom through beautiful worlds and Destiny has this nailed. However, what makes worlds like this a complete buy-in for me is when they DRAG ME into their world. As everyone knows, since Star Wars IV and on (of course, since before that too but y'all know what ah mean) the STORY is what makes you want to play the good AND the shitty games and merch that comes out afterward. The STORY sets the framework for everything I do and explains not only WHY I'm doing it but also WHY I care! Pull me into the story and I'll buy your mediocre Battlefront II because I know the world and why everything in it matters. Bungie is INTENT on doing the OPPOSITE. In fact, they actively EJECT players from the world and straight into the Multiplayer Game Lobby at every opportunity. I get why they do that - they need more of us plebs for the cannon fodder and they need matchmaking to find matches in a timely fashion. But fcol with NO attempt at explanation you are playing through a storyline with each step clearly marked out for you and then you find yourself thrust back to the map with a bunch of random options that have never been fully explained. They care SO LITTLE about the story for those of us who want to experience it that they throw us straight into the Strikes, destroying parts of the storyline and turning the story into a headlong dash to keep up with the other two players on the team who've seen it a million times and just want to rush through to the end. Quite a few players I know have had the experience of playing through the campaign (before New Light came out, cos now its worse) and then discovering they're playing the bonus dlc with so little attempt to guide or explain that it gets confusing, you feel lost and you feel like you might have missed some story or you're getting it mixed up. But Bungie don't care, it seems. Please make a clearer throughline for those of us who care, Bungie. I am WILLING to sit through shitty PVP, which I hate, just to keep experiencing a world I care about but its hard to care when, even with new story content I know you're just going to rush me through it in a slap-happy fashion so you can throw me straight back into the grind fray for the Destiny Hardcore who are only there for the new exotics. Come on, Bungie. Story rules, for some of us. Don't bury it so it's so damn hard to find or to stick with IN the order it's intended. Thank you for hearing my unwelcome rant. I apologize and shall forthwith disappear forever from existence.
